The Information Technology Specialist I plays a critical role in supporting the infrastructure that powers the Financial Information System for California (FI$Cal), providing technical leadership and expertise in server administration. This position is responsible for the evaluation, design, implementation, configuration, maintenance, and lifecycle management of enterprise server hardware, operating systems, virtualization platforms, storage solutions, cloud services, and related technologies.
Working collaboratively with internal teams, vendors, and business partners, the incumbent provides advanced technical expertise to support complex infrastructure, resolve technical issues, implement innovative solutions, and ensure the security, reliability, and availability of FI$Cal's technology environment. From planning and implementation through ongoing operations and continuous improvement, this position plays a vital role in maintaining a stable, resilient, and high-performing enterprise infrastructure that supports FI$Cal's statewide mission.

Effective July 1, 2025, the State of California implemented the Personal Leave Program 2025 (PLP 2025) which reduces an employee's monthly salary in exchange for leave credits. Employees appointed to this classification will have their monthly salary reduced and will accrue hours of PLP 2025 on the first day of each pay period in accordance with the applicable bargaining contract. At FI$Cal, we currently offer a remote-centered position with the flexibility of telework up to three days per week. In-office attendance is mandatory on designated days and is subject to change. Our office is located at 2000 Evergreen Street, Sacramento, CA. Please note, relocation and commute expenses are the responsibility of the employee.
This position requires prolonged sitting in an office-setting environment with the use of a personal computer. All staff must maintain regular, consistent, predictable attendance, maintain good working habits and adhere to all policies and procedures.

This position is located in the Information Technology Division (ITD), whose core mission is to provide a reliable, quality solution to customers and partners and maintain the highest level of security. ITD strives to support FI$Cal with self-sufficient, innovative technology infrastructure and application services built and managed by skilled technical staff. As customer and partner needs evolve, ITD will continue to improve FI$Cal by using its mature systems development life cycle processes.
