Bar Host Person

As a bartender, you help set the standards by which our restaurant is judged, in your personal appearance, your disposition, and your attitude towards the guest. You are always in full view of the guest. You only get one opportunity to make a first impression. Bartenders should view their bar from the perspective of the guest. The bars should always be maintained in line with health inspection guidelines. Bartenders need to have complete knowledge of all our food and beverage products. Therefore, as a bartender you should also think of yourself as a chef, you will be preparing all our beverage offerings, all your ingredients should always be clean and fresh. All beverages should be prepared efficiently and accurately. All bartenders should always be very conscience of all their cash handling interactions. All items should be rung in by the bartender and a drink should never be poured without a service chit. It is the bartenders responsibility to keep their cash in order and accurate.

Good communication skills are a must. Your working relationship with the entire staff is vital to the operation of the restaurant. You must be able to anticipate guest’s needs, as well as communicate those needs to the ones who need that information. Remember that you are here to assist the guest in every way.

Here are some basic bartender roles:

Maintain cleanliness of bar

Greet and serve all guests warmly

Recommend specialty cocktails

Encourage dining at the bar

Offer menus to all guests

Complete menu (beverage and food) knowledge

Prepare drinks consistently and serve food

Control all pours

Monitor and stock bar levels

Handle all bar transactions

Assist with inventories

Be the expert on all products behind the bar

Smile and make eye contact at all times

A bartender needs to have a positive attitude at all times and be able to maintain that attitude in any situation. Our goal is to be busy. When our restaurant is busy, we all make money. Being busy is never an excuse for not being friendly or forgetting to smile and acknowledge the guests.

Ability to prepare all beverage offerings, efficiently and accurately

You will find that your position requires you to be very efficient and complete several tasks at once. Although your attention to these areas is a part of the job requirement, you should never lose sight of your first priority…The Guest.

Your job is not just to merely serve our guests, but to guide them, be their host. Direct people who may not know what they want. You have the product knowledge they seek.
