Emergency Services
Performs protective service work providing emergency medical services to critically ill and injured patients under emergency conditions and related work as apparent or assigned. Work is performed under the moderate supervision of the Paramedic Captain.

This position works 12-hour rotating shifts and will be required to attend all continuing education classes required by Onslow County-Camp Lejeune EMS System.

This position will be required to attend an in-person, one-week Academy that is held Monday-Friday, 0800-1700 and complete a Field Training Program after completion of the Academy.

Responds to emergency calls and provides emergency medical care in accordance with established guidelines and written verbal instructions from physicians.
Transmits vital patient information and telemetry data to receiving medical care facility.
Inspects advanced life support and telemetry equipment daily and ensures proper maintenance and operating conditions and inventories supplies.
Thorough knowledge of emergency medical care techniques and procedures; thorough knowledge of advanced life support methods, procedures and equipment; thorough knowledge of medical terminology; thorough knowledge of the methods, materials, practices, techniques and equipment required for emergency medical treatment; ability to perform duties in emergency situations and to evaluate and differentially diagnose patient's conditions and communicate clearly with professional medical personnel; ability to perform general emergency medical treatment and specialized cardiac treatment; ability to respond quickly and calmly in emergency and stress situations; work requires preparing and analyzing written or computer data, visual inspection involving small defects and/or small parts, using of measuring devices, assembly or fabrication of parts within arm's length, operating machines, operating motor vehicles or equipment and observing general surroundings and activities; work occasionally requires wet, humid conditions (non-weather), working near moving mechanical parts, working in high, precarious places, exposure to fumes or airborne particles, exposure to toxic or caustic chemicals, exposure to outdoor weather conditions, exposure to extreme cold (non-weather), exposure to extreme heat (non-weather), exposure to the risk of electrical shock, working with explosives, exposure to vibration, wearing a self-contained breathing apparatus and exposure to bloodborne pathogens and may be required to wear specialized personal protective equipment; work is generally in a moderately noisy location (e.g. business office, light traffic).

High school diploma or GED with coursework in emergency medical services, or related field and moderate experience as a paramedic, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Possession and maintenance of current certificates issued by the State of North Carolina for Emergency Medical Technician (Paramedic)
Compensation will be determined based on qualifications, internal equity, budget, and market considerations.

Dental insurance is provided by Delta Dental to full-time employees and covers a percentage of basic to major dental procedures, including orthodontia for children and adults.

North Carolina Local Governmental Employees' Retirement System
Eligible employees are automatically enrolled in the retirement system and must contribute 6% of their gross salary each pay period. The County contributes 1% of employees' gross salary into the 401(k) account regardless of the employee's deferral amount. Regular full-time employees earn 13.5 days of vacation leave per year. Regular full-time employees earn 12 days of sick leave per year.
