Lead Dispatcher (Night Shift)

Lead Public Safety Dispatcher
The Lead Public Safety Dispatcher is responsible for dispatching police personnel in response to calls for service, assists the Technical Services Director, and maximizes continuity within the Dispatch Unit. The position provides lead direction of the operations of the Dispatch center and performs the job duties assigned while on‑duty in the 9‑1‑1 center. It serves as a shift lead with full lead responsibility over assigned personnel and may serve as a training coordinator for formal training and performance programs.

Responsibilities

Dispatch police personnel in response to calls for service.

Assist the Technical Services Director and maximize continuity within the Dispatch Unit.

Lead direction of the operations of the Dispatch center.

Perform the job duties assigned while on duty in the 9‑1‑1 center.

Serve as a shift lead and have full lead responsibility over assigned personnel.

Provide direction over subordinate Public Safety Dispatchers.

Serve as a training coordinator for formal training and performance programs.

Qualifications

High School diploma or GED equivalent.

Completion of a POST‑certified, 80‑hour Basic Complaint/Dispatcher course within 12 months of hire.

Background investigation and evaluation of oral communication skills.

12 months probationary period and medical examination.

Passing score on POST Entry‑level Dispatcher Selection Test Battery before academy.

Effective written and verbal communication skills.

Ability to work shifts on a rotational basis (days, swings, and midnights), on‑call assignments, and/or overtime as required.

Ability to pass medical and psychological examinations and a background investigation in compliance with California POST standards.

Knowledge of Police Dispatching Procedures, state‑of‑the‑art telephone and radio systems, and Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) and records systems.

Knowledge of information technology, personal computers, and related software applications.

Licenses / Certifications

Successful completion of California POST Public Safety Dispatcher Basic Course.

Valid California driver’s license.

Passing score on POST Entry‑level Dispatcher Selection Test Battery before academy.
