Position: temporary

Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred, but not required

Special Education Teacher promotes and develops successful learning for students eligible for IDEA services, manages an assigned caseload, provides academic and behavioral skills instruction in resource and/or inclusive classrooms, maintains regular communication with students, parents and staff, and is responsible for developing, revising and implementing IEPs. The teacher monitors and supports instruction across all learning environments, collaborates with general education teachers to enable inclusion, and reports to the Director of Student Services or Designated Administrator. The teacher does not supervise employees.

Develop and write specific programs and schedules for special education students, including in the regular classroom.

Support regular classroom and special education staff in developing students’ Individualized Education Plans.

Consult and support classroom teachers and assistants in carrying out and modifying programs and data collection systems; provide necessary training.

Work with other specialists to develop appropriate services for students and help implement them.

Implement an approved classroom monitoring system focused on safe, respectful and responsible behaviors.

Provide direct instruction, assistance and professional guidance to instructional staff.

Maintain open communication with students, parents and home school personnel.

Treat students with courtesy, personal dignity and confidentiality while advocating for their needs.

Confer regularly with the immediate supervisor.

Education and Experience

Oregon Teaching License with Handicapped Learner Endorsement.

Experience and training delivering direct instruction, behavioral and academic programs for students on the autism spectrum.

Experience designing and implementing functional routines with embedded communicative opportunities for students with developmental disabilities.

Computer skills: word‑processing and Google suite.

Experience working with students with developmental disabilities and behavioral concerns.

Special Education law and best practice.

Knowledge of Oregon laws and school reform.

Special Education law, regulations (ECSE, ESY, SPR&I).

Understanding of grade‑level curriculum and techniques for academic growth with disabilities.

provide programmatic material and guidance.

Effective communication with students, parents and school personnel from diverse backgrounds, in English, Spanish or other relevant languages.

Maintain integrity of confidential information and keep accurate records.

Work as a team member and communicate effectively orally and in writing.

Confer regularly with the immediate supervisor.

Follow district policies, procedures and reasonable requests from authority.
