Forestry Forester

Job Title This position will act as the on-ground/field liaison between the Tennessee Division of Forestry and the United States Forest Service to monitor ongoing and future harvest operations on the Cherokee National Forest. Additional duties will include developing relationships with potential buyers and forest industry representatives throughout the region. Overnight travel may be required. Personal vehicle will be necessary - State vehicle is not provided. Personal vehicle mileage associated with work duties, hotel, per diem, and miscellaneous supplies will be reimbursed. Reimbursement for travel, meals and/or lodging shall be subject to amounts and limitations specified in the "State Comprehensive Travel Regulations," as they are amended from time to time, and shall be contingent upon and limited by the Grant Budget funding for said reimbursement.

Under general supervision, walks, hikes, and works on steep, rough terrain for extended periods of time to perform timber cruising activities, boundary line inspections, timber sale preparation and timber sale contract administration. Uses mapping software to document road and plot locations, boundaries, timber sale units and other information. Uploads/downloads data such as inventory data, GIS data, Excel and Word data documents to update various inventory and GIS data systems. Operates hand held computer devices such as GPS, data recorders, and laptops to navigate, record and manage data. Maintains various records such as: water quality reports, logging courtesy checks and records/invoices associated with timber harvesting.
