SCA conducts pre-employment and drug screening for all positions which includes a criminal background check, verification of work history, academic credentials, licenses, and certifications. A Level One Fingerprint Clearance Card is also required.

This position may include teaching a combination of upper-level high school science classes including Biology and AP Biology. Experience teaching A/P and Dual Enrollment classes is preferred. We are seeking an individual who is passionate about Christian education and is called to work with youth, desiring them to grow in their understanding of science with a biblical perspective. Beyond preparing lessons and grading assignments, this applicant will also take on routine responsibilities common to all SCA teaching staff. Our teachers are responsible for fulfilling the mission of Scottsdale Christian by equipping minds through engaging, innovative instruction and nurturing hearts by mentoring young people as a spiritual leader and role model. This teacher will report directly to the Upper School Principal.

Required Professional Qualities

Education & Certification

Bachelor's Degree in Science or a related field from an accredited college is required; Master's Degree strongly preferred.

Past experience teaching A/P classes and Dual Enrollment classes preferred.

State teaching certification preferred.

Experience

Training in Science and best practices in teaching is required.

Prior teaching experience preferred.

Skills

Ability to design lessons that teach curriculum in an engaging manner, applying various teaching methods.

Ability to develop authentic relationships with young adults.

Strong supervisory and leadership skills to manage and control the classroom.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Excellent interpersonal and problem resolution skills with the proven ability to maintain professionalism and tact in high-stress situations.

Excellent organizational skills for multi-tasking and prioritizing responsibilities.

Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite or similar software. Knowledge of FACTS is a plus.

Demonstrate a commitment to continuous improvement.

Physical Requirements

Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds at times.

Must be able to traverse school grounds and lead students to safety in the event of an emergency.

Essential Functions, Duties, and Responsibilities

Display a deep knowledge of science and its application to our lives.

Display the ability to connect Biblical truth to high school students.

Teach Science classes utilizing the latest research and best practices.

Promote student engagement in order to inspire and encourage progress while supporting and strengthening the learning capabilities of each student.

Maintain a healthy learning environment for the students in the classroom as well as instruction while monitoring and managing students' behavior, including appropriate enforcement of student behavior rules.

Teach classes assigned following prescribed scope and sequence as scheduled by the Administrators/Principals.

Maintain records by documenting learning accomplishments, attendance, and behavior.

Establish and adjust course syllabi outlines and objectives by following curriculum guidelines and school goals.

Fulfill requirements to maintain Association of Christian Schools International (ACSI) certification.
