Under general supervision, performs various semi-skilled maintenance and unskilled labor work related to the City of Waxahachie's parks/cemetery/sports complex, or other related areas. This is the entry through journey level class in the Maintenance Worker series. Employees within this class are distinguished from the Maintenance Worker II and Senior Maintenance Worker classifications by the performance of the full range of duties as assigned, with no supervisory responsibility. Employees at this level receive only occasional instruction, assistance, or supervision as new or unusual situations arise, and are fully aware of the operating procedures and policies of the work unit.
Participate in the repair and maintenance of city parks, cemetery, and sports complex, including operating various equipment in the completion of assigned tasks.
Perform various tasks related to the maintenance and repair of city parks including mowing, weed eating, plant trees and other plants; Maintains ball fields by mowing, tilling, leveling and striping.
Operate various light equipment including mowers, edgers, tiller, pickup truck, chainsaw, and other equipment as needed.
Maintain and make minor repair to assigned vehicles, tools, and equipment; Show cemetery plots to potential customers, locate, and mark graves.

Education, Training and Experience:
High School diploma or GED equivalent.
One year of general maintenance experience.

Operations, services, and activities of a maintenance program.
Methods and techniques of maintenance equipment operation.
Pertinent Federal, State and local laws, codes, and regulations.
Operations, services, and activities of the city.
English usage, spelling, grammar, and punctuation.
Operational characteristics of various maintenance equipment and tools.
Operate a variety of maintenance equipment in a safe and effective manner.
Perform heavy manual labor.
Work outdoors and in inclement weather conditions.
Interpret and apply Federal, State and local policies, laws, and regulations.
Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
