Position Summary:
Under the supervision of Chief Dental Officer, provide general dentistry services to patients served at the facility assigned, or to any other facility or program where the Tribe provides services, provide clinical diagnosis, evaluation, studies, and treatment services of professionally acceptable quantity and quality, in accordance with privileges granted. All Nimkee staff must adhere to mandated reporting laws.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Complete patient charting, clinical notes and billing codes in Dentrix (Electronic Dental Record) after each patient.
Complete referral paperwork to specialists and sign/record specialist correspondence received.
Prepare Peer Review paperwork for all providers each quarter; complete Peer Reviews of other department dentists, tally totals and provide results to Dental and Medical Clinic Directors.
Oversee in-house dental lab and lab work.
Assist in coordinating, implementing and evaluating community outreach programs.
Establish and maintain positive working relationships with other health disciplines and tribal health groups, as well as other official and non-official health, educational, and governing organizations.
Attend and participate in various committees as assigned.
Promote dignity, respect, and mutual understanding between staff and patients.
Provide and manage direct patient care, including examinations, evaluations, assessments, diagnoses and treatments.
Prescribe pharmaceuticals, other medications, and treatment regimens as appropriate to assessed medical conditions.
Inform the patient of diagnosis and treatment need and option in such a way that the patient understands and can make an informed decision.
Refer patients to specialists and to relevant patient care components as appropriate.
Direct and coordinate the patient care activities of dental technical and support staff as required.
Adhere to patient confidentiality and comply with clinic policies and federal regulations under the Privacy rules of the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA).
Provide excellent customer service for all internal and external customers of the operations at all times. Provide solutions for customer concerns and continually focus on customer service as our top priority.
Must maintain strict confidentiality and present a positive, professional demeanor and image at all times.

Contacts/Purpose of Contacts:

Contact with patients for the purpose of providing direct care dental services.
Contact with Nimkee Clinic staff and Tribal Operations staff.
Contacts may also include dental supply vendors, staff from outside dental labs, and specialists to which patients may be referred.
Minimum Qualifications:

DDS/DMD degree from an accredited school.
Michigan Licensed Dentist.
Must be able to pass background check to meet the employment eligibility requirements as they pertain to the position.
Desired Qualifications:

~ Two years working Dentist experience.

License, Certification, or Special Requirements:

DEA Controlled Substance License or ability to obtain upon hire.
Ability to obtain HIPAA Certification, Blood Borne Pathogens Certification, BLS Certification and Safety Training within thirty days of hire.
Native American preference shall apply to all positions.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Knowledge of current principles, methods and procedures for the delivery of dental evaluation, diagnosis and treatment in area of expertise.
Knowledge of related accreditation and certification requirements.
Knowledge of legal and ethical standards for the delivery of dental surgical care.
Knowledge of relevant drugs and non-pharmaceutical patient care aids and ability to prescribe dosages and instruct patients in correct usage.
Knowledge of federal, state, and institutional regulations and guidelines for the provision of dental outpatient services.
Skill in treating patients with tact, courtesy, and respect.
Skill with reading results of dental x-rays and tests and communicating results clearly and accurately.
Skill in operating business computers and office machines, including in a Windows environment, specifically Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint.
Ability to maintain quality, safety, and/or infection control standards.
Ability to work both independently and in a team environment.
Ability to communicate effectively in the English language, both verbally and in writing.
Ability to establish and maintain professional relationships with individuals of varying social and cultural backgrounds and with co-workers at all levels.
Ability to maintain confidentiality.
Ability to observe, assess, and record symptoms, reactions, and progress.
Ability to efficiently perform chair side techniques in all phase of dentistry.
Ability to explain to patient, post-operative instructions, preventive techniques and care instructions.
Physical Demands:

Frequent use of hands, wrists, fingers associated with providing dental care and with computer equipment.
Required to stand, sit and walk for extended periods of time.
Occasionally stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl.
Normal visual acuity, ability to talk and hear.
Occasionally lift and/or move up to 20 pounds.
Work Environment:

Dental office.
Exposure to bodily fluids such as blood and saliva and/or the potential for needle sticks and/or dental instrument skin puncture.
Latex may be used in the dental office which can produce allergic reactions.
Potential contact with chemicals and/or cleaning reagents utilized within the clinic.
Exposure to unpleasant odors, radiation, blood-borne pathogens, hazardous material and infectious disease.
Situations occur where surgical masks, safety goggles, gloves and protective face shields are needed.
Extended hours and irregular shifts may be required.
