How Jooble improves job seekers’ CVs

The resume is a key job search tool, as it is the document that job seekers use to present themselves, describing their skills, experience, and advantages. Sometimes, candidates may not know how to formulate their CVs correctly and concisely, resulting in low-quality or incomplete documents.

Every job seeker needs to create or update their CV during their job search. Jooble conducted a survey of its users in the United States, United Kingdom, France, Germany, Poland, and Canada to find out what they needed. Specifically, users were asked about the state of their CVs and whether they were ready to send them if they saw an interesting job opening.

The survey revealed that:

  1. 28.4% of job seekers in the United States do not have a resume, while 5.6% require expert review. 10.3% of resumes require minor updates, and 34.2% of candidates are ready to send their CVs.
  2. In France, 19.6% of candidates have a draft resume that needs further work. 8.8% of CVs require expert review, and 10.8% require minor updates. 60.8% of job seekers are ready to send their resume.
  3. 27% of job seekers in Germany do not have a resume, while 12.4% have a draft. 11.9% of German respondents indicated that their CVs require minor updates. 27.5% of users are ready to send their CVs for a job opening.

Overall, the highest percentage of job seekers without a resume was found in Poland (37.5%), the United States (28.4%), and Germany (27.1%). The lowest percentage was found in the United Kingdom (18%). Job seekers in the United States, United Kingdom, and Canada already use online resume checking services, while in Germany, France, and Poland, such a tool is one of the most desired to improve CVs.

Based on user responses, we understand that our job seekers mostly have a CV, but they are not very confident in it. Therefore, we decided to help those who already have a resume and want to improve it.

How we decided to help job seekers

Together with our partners TopResume, we have implemented an opportunity for our job seekers to improve their own CV. Users can upload their resume to the CV Review form and receive recommendations on how to improve their resume via email.

In May, our team agreed to a trial period with our partners, and we launched it in July of last year. In August, we expanded this opportunity to job seekers in the following countries: Austria, Belgium, France, the Netherlands, Poland, Romania, the United States, the United Kingdom, Australia, Spain, Italy, Portugal, Finland, and Norway.

About CV Review

Our users have the opportunity to check their resumes in two languages – English and German. During the trial period, we received 5000 resumes from job seekers.

Large companies often check candidates’ resumes using automated services, and only then do the resumes that fit the criteria get passed on to recruiters. The TopResume service adapts a job seeker’s resume to the system, making sure the necessary aspects for automated screening are clearly visible. For example, if a certain job requires a specialist with more than 5 years of experience, the system immediately checks all resumes for this criteria and only passes on the relevant ones to recruiters. Therefore, it is important to clearly indicate this experience in the resume.

With this service, the user can understand how their resume is perceived without context or presentation and can improve it accordingly. TopResume checks resumes based on specific criteria: Design and Formatting, Content and Structure, Keywords and Skills, and Applicant Tracking System (ATS) Compatibility.

The main value of the service is that users can receive more interview opportunities thanks to a resume that has become even more informative and concise.
