Shop Manager

First Student is now hiring a Shop Manager II in Pottstown, PA. This role offers a $5,000 hiring bonus. Job Overview The Shop Manager II oversees all location maintenance operations and provides shop staff oversight, directly supervising staff and providing operational visibility to the Location Manager. The position ensures safe working conditions for the fleet supporting the surrounding School District. Benefits Monday‑Friday full‑time shift Full benefits including health, dental, vision, and matching 401(k) Paid holidays and personal time off Competitive starting salary Responsibilities Schedule and administer fleet maintenance, troubleshoot equipment problems, and communicate vehicle availability to dispatch and operations. Hire, fire, approve salary changes, train and develop staff, plan and direct work, discipline, handle complaints and grievances, and conduct performance reviews. Collaborate with the location manager and regional maintenance management to provide maintenance status and budget requirements; review financial and budget variances, repair orders, and approve accounts payable documents. Ensure compliance with State, Federal, and Company requirements and maintain a safe environment in accordance with policies and regulations. Order fuel, parts, and subcontract repair work as needed; initiate and implement projects to improve efficiency and reduce operating costs. Ensure technicians are trained, equipped, and motivated to execute maintenance safely, timely, and cost‑effectively. Supervise bus fueling and arrange services for building and groundkeeping as requested; complete special projects as assigned. Perform hands‑on work activities required for the role. Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent; technical training preferred. Willingness to participate in the ASE certification program (training, testing, and bonuses provided). Valid driver’s license; willingness to obtain a CDL during employment (training provided). 5+ years of hands‑on mechanical supervisory experience. Ability to lift 20 to 50 lbs. Strong written and oral communication skills. Computer skills. Industry experience repairing and maintaining diesel engines and school bus equipment preferred. Physical Requirements Work in a crouched position or on a mechanic’s dolly beneath a motor vehicle. Exposed to dust, dirt, and grease.
