Procurement Manager I

Position Summary

The Procurement Manager I oversees the procurement of all maintenance parts, plant supplies, and services. This role supports the Plant by ensuring timely availability of critical spare parts and supplies needed to operate the facility. This position plays a key role in balancing cost-effectiveness with operational requirements in a fast-paced, high-volume production environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage the procurement of maintenance, repair, and operations materials, equipment, and services in accordance with company policies and procedures.
• Develop and maintain effective supplier relationships to support competitive pricing, quality, and timely delivery.
• Evaluate supplier performance and support contract negotiations as needed.
• Review and process purchase orders, verify proper general ledger coding, and monitor deliveries to support inventory accuracy.
• Coordinate with storeroom personnel to maintain appropriate inventory levels of critical spare parts.
• Monitor stock levels, reorder points, and cycle counts; participate in annual physical inventories.
• Support efforts to reduce excess inventory while maintaining adequate coverage to minimize production risk.
• Coordinate planned downtime with operations to reduce disruption to production.
• Monitor and report maintenance-related expenses and identify opportunities for cost savings.
• Support the Plant Engineer in preparing maintenance and procurement budgets.
• Ensure compliance with company procurement guidelines, vendor approval requirements, and documentation standards.
• Maintain accurate records in the computerized maintenance management system for purchasing and maintenance activities.
• Assist with capital project purchasing activities as directed.
• Resolve procurement and scheduling issues in a timely manner to support plant operations.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Skills and Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in supply chain, business administration, industrial maintenance, or a related field preferred; equivalent experience may be considered.
• Three to five years of purchasing experience in a manufacturing environment, preferably in food processing or industrial operations.
• Knowledge of computerized maintenance management systems preferred.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Excel, Word, and Outlook.
• SAP or other enterprise resource planning system experience preferred.
• Working knowledge of mechanical and electrical components commonly used in industrial maintenance.
• Strong organizational, negotiation, communication, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities in a time-sensitive environment.
• Strong attention to detail and accuracy.

 Physical Demands & Work Environment

• Primarily office-based, with regular visits to the plant floor and maintenance areas.
• May be exposed to loud, cold, and wet processing environments.
• Must be able to perform the essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodation.
