Assistant Teaching Professor in English, Department of English Georgetown University: Main Campus: College of Arts & Sciences: English Location: Washington, DC The Department of English at Georgetown University invites applications for a one-year replacement hire at the rank of Assistant Teaching Professor, Non‑Tenure Line position to begin in August 2026. The teaching load is three courses per semester. Candidates should be able to teach courses in some combination of at least two of the following areas: 19th‑Century British Novel 19th‑Century American Literature Modernism Irish literature of the 19th and/or 20th century 20th Century American / Multiethnic Literatures Note that it is not expected or desired that any candidate can do all of these; successful candidates, instead, will have expertise in some narrow combination of these widely disparate areas of curricular expertise. Courses for Fall 2026 may include some combination of: 19th C British Novel; 19th C American Literature; Modernist Literatures; Irish Literature; Intro to Asian American Culture. Courses for Spring 2026 will be determined in consultation with the successful candidate. Required Qualifications PhD in English or closely related field strongly preferred. A minimum of two years developing and teaching college-level courses in the field(s) of specialization. Salary and Benefits The projected base salary range is $61,750.46 to $68,389.40. Compensation is determined by a number of factors, including the candidate’s individual qualifications, experience, education, skills, and certifications, as well as the University’s business needs and external factors.
