The Department of Performing Arts at Georgetown University invites applications for a full-time, one-year Assistant Teaching Professor (Non-Tenure Line) position in Music for the 2026–2027 academic year. The teaching load is three courses per semester, focused at the undergraduate level. Responsibilities include contributing to the American Musical Cultures major, teaching in the Music Program’s core and upper-level curriculum, and supporting the broader academic mission of the department. We are seeking a scholar of American music, jazz history, or related fields with demonstrated experience teaching writing-intensive courses about music for undergraduate students. The successful candidate will teach Writing About Music, Jazz History, and additional courses in American Musical Cultures, popular music, or music and media, depending on expertise. The candidate will join an active interdisciplinary department and contribute to a flexible, student-centered curriculum that emphasizes historical, cultural, political, and media-centered approaches to music. Candidates whose work connects musical practice to broader questions of culture, politics, media, or public humanities are especially encouraged to apply. Candidates with interest in teaching both introductory and advanced courses, and with a demonstrated commitment to inclusive pedagogy and diversity in the classroom, are encouraged to apply. A Ph.D. in Musicology, Ethnomusicology, American Studies, Jazz Studies, or a closely related field is required by the appointment start date (ABD considered with strong teaching record).
