Adjunct Professor, Workforce Readiness Skills Development

Brief Description of Duties The University of the District of Columbia’s Workforce Development (UDC-WDLL) is a department of the University of the District of Columbia (UDC). We are seeking an enthusiastic and qualified teaching assistant to support the Lead Instructor in delivering a partnership training program. Teacher Assistants will work closely with the Lead instructor to plan and deliver meaningful learning experiences, create educational and career development opportunities for maximum educational development. We are seeking an enthusiastic and qualified Teacher Assistant with a strong Math background to support UDC-WDLL’s grant partnership(s) course(s). Essential Duties and Responsibilities Assist Lead Instructor with the full range of curriculum/course development and delivery, classroom set‑up and logistics, classroom management, administrative activities, and supporting students’ success. Review class lessons, lectures, lab work, homework, etc. with students on a one‑on‑one basis or in small groups, as directed by the Lead Instructor. Support students in class, between classes, and during events and activities. Assist Lead Instructor in conducting administrative tasks such as: tracking attendance, grading assignments, calculating grades, maintaining accurate and organized student information and records. Providing additional support and appropriately referring students who need special accommodations or are struggling with a concept, as directed by the Lead Instructor. Support the Lead Instructor to identify students’ issues and recommend solutions. Assist Lead Instructor to monitor and enforce classroom policies, rules, and regulations. Support the Lead Instructor with student behavioural management and de‑escalating challenging student behaviour. Deliver lesson(s) content using a variety of teaching styles and provide interesting and engaging assignments that demonstrate the real‑world applications of concepts covered. Attend required meetings and student orientation session(s), as applicable. Meet regularly with the Lead Instructor and/or other key partnership stakeholders to address issues, opportunities, student and course progress, performance, and challenges. Minimum Job Requirement Teaching certification or associate’s degree in education or mathematics (preferred). At least three years of prior teaching experience, preferably in Mathematics. Experience teaching adult workforce development and/or non‑traditional education preferred. Understanding of pedagogical best practices.
