Number of Vacancies: 1 Area of Consideration: Open To The Public Employment Status: Part -Time, Temporary Pay Plan, Series & Grade: ES0000/0000/01 Salary Range: varies depending on assignment Closing Date: Open Until Filled Location: 4200 Connecticut Ave. NW, Washington, DC 20008 Brief Description of Duties The Department of Architecture and Urban Sustainability at The University of the District of Columbia, College of Agriculture, Urban Sustainability and Environmental Sciences (CAUSES) seeks candidates for Adjunct faculty positions in the Architecture and Community Planning programs. This position requires the adjunct to teach design studios in the undergraduate (B.S. major in Architecture) program, as well as lecture and seminar courses in their area of expertise at the undergraduate or National Architectural Accrediting Board (NAAB) accredited graduate levels (M, Arch degree). Expertise in teaching courses such as basic design and communication, materials and methods of construction, architecture and planning graphics, urban and community design, the built environment, professional ethics and practice, computer technology and simulation, and/or preservation technology is needed. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Ability to utilize a variety of assessment techniques to ensure achievement of student learning outcomes. Familiarity with, or willingness to learn, a variety of instructional delivery methods, including online learning and social media, and to provide educational content and opportunities supported by evidence‑based research and individual expertise. Familiarity with, or willingness to learn, Blackboard or other learning management systems. Familiarity with the NAAB accreditation standards. Work collaboratively with the Department Chair, Associate Dean, Program Director and program faculty, other academic units in CAUSES, land‑grant programs, as well as with federal and District of Columbia (DC) agencies and service providers to effectively address DC and national program priorities related to professional Architecture practice. Maintain records of enrollment and attendance, assessments and grades, submit class rosters and grade sheets by the deadlines established by the institution. Attend one or more orientation session(s) to become familiar with the institution's mission and teaching philosophy, policies and procedures and the learning management system. Adhere to University policies and guidelines in all matters concerning academics and student and staff conduct. Minimum Job Requirement Terminal degree in Architecture (M.Arch. or B.Arch plus post‑professional master’s degree in architecture or related field). Architectural practice experience. Strong interpersonal skills, excellent verbal and written communication skills. Familiarity with and adherence to NAAB accreditation standards. Preferred Registered architect in one of the 54 U.S. jurisdictions. Licensure in the District of Columbia. Previous teaching experience. Previous studio teaching experience.
