Day Camp Assistant Supervisor

Salary: Starting at $18.79 per hour

Job Summary: Under general supervision, the Day Camp Assistant Supervisor supports the day-to-day operations of a youth day camp for children ages 512. This role assists in supervising camp leaders, coordinating daily schedules and activities, and ensuring a safe, welcoming environment for campers and their families. The position requires strong leadership, communication, and customer service skills, and involves both indoor and outdoor work.

Essential Job Functions
  • Assist in supervising a team of day camp leaders to ensure smooth daily operations.
  • Help coordinate daily schedules, set up activities, and support program logistics.
  • Greet and communicate with parents and guardians in a professional and friendly manner.
  • Provide direct support to children as needed during camp activities.
  • Work in both indoor and outdoor environments throughout the day.
  • Assist in coordinating and supervising field trips off-site.
  • Maintain records including, but not limited to, medications and behavior logs.
  • Enforce safety rules and respond calmly and effectively in emergency situations.
  • Follow guidance and standard operating procedure (SOP) for conflict management and resolution.
  • Conduct emergency/response testing.
  • Practice safe food handling.
Other Job Functions
  • Ensure clean and safe work areas in recreational centers.
  • Report all suspected cases per training guidelines when required.
  • Serve as acting supervisor during designated periods or in the absence of supervisory staff.
  • Serve as Camp Leader when assigned to support program operations.
Minimum Qualifications

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:

  • Knowledge of youth development and age-appropriate programming.
  • Knowledge of neurodivergent traits and the range of developmental, behavioral, and cognitive characteristics that may be observed in some youth.
  • Knowledge of camp operations and activity planning.
  • Knowledge of office and administrative practices and procedures
  • Skill in assisting with supervision and coordination of camp staff and activities.
  • Skill in communicating effectively with children, parents, and coworkers.
  • Skill in providing excellent customer service in a fast-paced environment.
  • Skill in adapting to changing schedules and camper needs.
  • Skill in maintaining a positive and inclusive camp atmosphere.
  • Skill in using PC Software including current Microsoft Office Suite of applications.
  • Skill in communicating professionally and tactfully with other city employees and the public by oral and written means.
  • Skill with organization and attention to detail.
  • Ability to support and motivate a team of camp leaders.
  • Ability to manage multiple responsibilities and prioritize tasks.
  • Ability to maintain a safe and engaging environment for youth.
  • Ability to operate a two-way radio.
  • Ability to operate a 10-passenger van safely with the general public in all conditions.
  • Ability to respond calmly and appropriately in emergency situations.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to exercise discretion and independent judgment utilizing knowledge of the organization's policies.
  • Ability to work independently under general instructions.
  • Ability to perform a variety of physical skills including but not limited to filing, pulling, seeing, sorting, squatting, standing, stooping, twisting body, typing, walking, and writing.
  • Ability to operate a variety of office equipment including but not limited to PC, telephone, calculator, scanner, and copier.

Qualifying Education and Experience:

  • Must be age 18 or older
  • High school diploma or GED
  • Possession of a valid Texas Operator's License, Class C
  • Successful completion of the City of Arlington's CPR and First Aid training required upon hire
  • Child sexual abuse and trauma detection and prevention training required upon hire

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Previous experience working with and/or instructing children in a day camp setting

  • Drug and alcohol testing
  • Motor vehicle review (MVR)
