OR Charge Nurse Perioperative Control Desk Liaison

Arnold Palmer Hospital is currently seeking an OR Charge Nurse Perioperative Control Desk Liaison. The OR Charge Nurse Perioperative Control Desk Liaison coordinates all activitieswhether PACU- or OR-relatedwith the surgery schedule, ensuring that 100% of all surgery patient procedures are completed timely and efficiently.

The OR Charge Nurse Perioperative Control Desk Liaison works in conjunction with Pre-Admission Testing, the Pre-Anesthesia Care Area, and Post Anesthesia Care Unit. Other support departments that are non-clinical include Sterile Supply and the Sterile Processing Department. The operating room is defined as the space and equipment necessary for the successful completion of surgical procedures. The APH Surgery Department, in conjunction with Anesthesia Services offers perioperative care to children, both inpatient and outpatient, who meet the anesthesia ASA Class I, II, III or IV physical status criteria of the American Society of Anesthesiologists.

The major services include elective, urgent and emergent surgical procedures for pediatric patients. Patients having local, general, monitored anesthesia care, or regional anesthesia are treated. Pediatric patients are accepted and approved by the attending surgeon and anesthesiologist. In the case of patients >21 years of age, a panel reviews the patient history and surgical needs for appropriate admission to APH.

The surgery department staff is scheduled to provide flexible nursing care and services for elective scheduled, STAT NOW, emergent and urgent cases around the clock. APH Surgery Department provides coverage for STAT NOW, urgent and emergent cases, including trauma cases 24/7.

Responsibilities include ensuring incident reports are initiated and completed for all unusual circumstances or incidents per facility guidelines, maintaining excellent customer service and communication skills with surgeons, anesthesia, team members, and management, maintaining open line of communication throughout the shift between Sterile Processing/Materials Management (surgery), Guest Services, Admitting, Anesthesia, PreOP (PACU) and other departments as required, collaborating with Assistant Nurse Managers/Learning Specialists to ensure that staff competency levels match the duties being performed, ensuring coverage for Desk Liaison deficits, per guidelines of each facility, scheduling after hours and add on cases in an accurate and timely manner, notifying all applicable departments and team members appropriately (Surgery), orienting new clinical team members in the functions and role of the control desk, working in collaboration with Surgery Charge Team (Anesthesiologist, Surgeon) to ensure constant flow of surgical cases, if cases are delayed, notifying the appropriate personnel of the delay, coordinating patient care with multi-disciplinary departments (Pre-op, PACU, Radiology, Lab, Blood Bank, OR, ED, IP Unit, etc.) in emergent and non-emergent cases to maintain a consistent level of patient care, acting as resource person, particularly on off shifts, answering or obtaining technical answers to questions regarding cases, maintaining reasonably regular, punctual attendance consistent with Orlando Health policies, the ADA, FMLA, and other federal, state, and local standards, and maintaining compliance with all Orlando Health policies and procedures.

Qualifications include a graduate of an approved school of nursing, effective January 1, 2020: new hires and team members moved into this job and/or transferring Depts. must obtain a Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree (BSN) within 36 months of placement, current license in the State of Florida, maintains current BLS/HealthCare Provider Certification and appropriate Advanced Life Support, if required by individual facility, and two years current operating room experience for the surgical area; and/or 2 years of PACU experience for the PACU area.
