Registered Nurse (RN) - Medical Surgical - Neuro

This position involves caring primarily for patients with neurological conditions, including strokes and other neuro diagnoses. The role requires experience in a medical-surgical setting with a focus on neuro patients.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide comprehensive nursing care to patients in a medical-surgical neuro unit.
• Monitor and interpret telemetry readings and dysrhythmias.
• Administer medications and manage IV therapies.
• Collaborate with healthcare team members to ensure optimal patient outcomes.
• Float to other medical/surgical and telemetry areas as required.
• Participate in weekend shifts as scheduled.

Shift Information

The position requires working 12-hour night shifts, with a commitment to every other weekend. Travelers are expected to fulfill any missed shifts within the same week or at the end of their contract.

Patient Population

This unit primarily cares for stroke patients, along with others requiring neurosurgical interventions. Common diagnoses include epilepsy, traumatic and non-traumatic subdural hematomas, among others.

• Bed Capacity: 43
• Average Daily Census: 42
• 4-Bed Epilepsy Monitoring Unit (EMU) on-site

Qualifications

• Minimum of 2 years of nursing experience with at least 1 year in a medical-surgical setting.
• Previous travelers must have completed a minimum of 2 successful contracts.
• Local candidates are accepted.

Required Skills and Certifications

• BCLS and NIHSS certifications required.
• ACLS certification preferred, but not mandatory.
• Proficiency in IV starts and telemetry monitoring required.

Orientation

The role includes a 36-hour orientation period to ensure familiarity with unit protocols and systems.

Scrubs

Navy scrubs are required for this position.

Additional Notes

• Must pass EKG testing prior to starting in this specialty.
• Floating to COVID care units may be required based on unit needs.
• RTO (Request Time Off) restrictions apply; any call-offs could result in contract cancellation.
