A member of the Los Angeles Community College District FACULTY POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT AY27 Counselor, Extended Opportunity Programs and Services (EOPS) Full–Time, D-basis Tenure Track Closing Date: 4:30PM September 19, 2026 DESCRIPTIONS OF POSITION: Located on about 426 acres in the West San Fernando Valley, Los Angeles Pierce College combines state-of-the-art technology and learning with the picturesque beauty of its rolling hills. Founded in 1947, Pierce College is a growing two-year public institution with more than 100 disciplines being taught to more than 18,000 students each semester and enjoys one of the highest transfer performances in Southern California. Seen as a leader statewide and nationally, Pierce College is now seeking to expand its outstanding faculty by offering a Full-Time Tenure Track counseling position for the Extended Opportunity Program & Services Program starting in Summer 2026. The assignment will be for 35 hours per week and may require some Saturday and evening hours. DEPARTMENT: The Extended Opportunity Programs and Services ( EOPS ) is a state funded program, which provides support services to eligible students attending LAPC. The program’s aim is to serve and encourage students to continue their education in the community college level.The specific responsibility of EOPS is to develop and provide programs, services, techniques and activities that support students in addition to the ones received through traditional college programs. EOPS is a college success, counseling support program for low income and educationally disadvantaged students. EOPS students receive assistance and support with their college education. Special attention is given to identify, plan, develop and achieve the academic, career and personal goals of the students. All Counseling Faculty are expected to participate in department meetings and professional development activities, as well as participate in college-wide activities and shared governance committees. As a specialized student support program, full-time EOP&S faculty are also expected to participate in EOP&S program meetings, trainings, and professional development activities to support program compliance, collaboration, and effective service delivery to students. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Assist students in choosing and planning immediate and long-range educational goals, including developing individualized student education plans. Provide assistance to students experiencing academic and/or personal difficulties and make referrals to on and off-campus resources as appropriate. Engage students in a process of self-assessment and career exploration to facilitate career decision-making skills. Counsel students who are on probation or subject to dismissal and assist them to create a plan for success. Conduct orientations to familiarize students with college programs and services. Assist students with petitions, waivers, and appeals for graduation, financial aid, course repetition, dismissal, and reinstatement. Teach Personal Development courses and/or facilitate workshops related to educational and career planning, study skills, and other topics supportive of student success. Evaluate transcripts in collaboration with the Admissions and Records Office. Work as a team member on department and campus-wide committees and groups. Participate in the team development of Program Review, Service Area Outcomes (SAO’s). Perform other responsibilities as assigned. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Master’s degree in counseling, rehabilitation counseling, clinical psychology, counseling psychology, guidance counseling, educational counseling, social work, or career development, or the equivalent; AND EOPS counselors shall: a. Have completed a minimum of nine semester units of college course work predominantly relating to ethnic minorities or persons handicapped by language, social or economic disadvantages; OR b. Have completed six semester units or equivalent of a college-level counseling practicum or counseling field work courses in a community college EOPS program, or a program dealing predominantly with ethnic minorities or persons handicapped by language, social or economic disadvantages; AND o In addition, an EOPS counselor shall have two years of occupational experiencein work relating to ethnic minorities or persons handicapped by language, social economic disadvantages. Demonstrate sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic background of community college faculty, staff and students. DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS: Total of three semesters or more of paid work experience, post Master’s Degree, as a counselor in a community college or university within the past two years. A minimum of two years of paid EOPS Counseling experience. Experience and sensitivity in counseling and teaching students who may be first generation, non-native speakers, academically under-prepared, non-traditional, or returning students. Experience working with students who may be current or former foster youth and/or single parents and the public systems that provide support towards their academic success. Knowledge of career development theory. Demonstrated leadership skills, e.g., coordinating programs or activities, initiating new services, leading workgroups, etc. Willingness to exploration new teaching methods to reach and support students in a multicultural environment. Demonstrated commitment to collaborate with colleagues within the discipline and department. Demonstrate proficiency in current computer technology using web-based resources (Assist, Cranium Café, PeopleSoft, CANVAs, EOPS Electronic Filing System and create student educational plans). Experience teaching and/or providing counseling services online and/or in a hybrid modality. SALARY AND BENEFITS The current salary range is from $100,944 -$180,192 for the 12-month calendar year, based upon education and experience. The doctoral differential is $487 per month. The district provides an excellent retirement and benefits package including medical, dental, vision and life insurance to the employee and eligible dependents.
