Asphalt Quality Control Technician

The H&K Group is seeking an Asphalt Quality Control Technician to support our construction materials operations. In this role, you will sample and test hot mix asphalt and related materials in the field and lab to ensure they meet project specifications and DOT standards. Responsibilities include performing standardized QC tests, recording and analyzing data, communicating results to paving and plant crews, and assisting with adjustments to mix designs. You'll work on active job sites, uphold strict safety and environmental standards, and contribute to delivering high-quality, community-focused projects across the Mid-Atlantic region.

Responsibilities

• Sample and test hot mix asphalt and aggregates in field and lab settings
• Perform standardized QC and DOT test procedures on asphalt materials
• Document, analyze, and report test results accurately and on time
• Communicate findings to plant and paving crews to support quality adjustments
• Assist with verifying mix designs and material specifications compliance
• Maintain, calibrate, and troubleshoot lab and field testing equipment
• Follow company and regulatory safety procedures on plants and job sites
• Prepare and organize quality records for audits and project documentation
• Collaborate with supervisors and engineers to resolve quality issues
• Support continuous improvement of QC processes and best practices

Required Skills

• Asphalt material testing (field and lab)
• Understanding of DOT and ASTM testing standards
• Use and calibration of QC lab equipment
• Sample collection and handling procedures
• Reading and interpreting mix designs and specs
• Data entry and basic statistical analysis of test results
• Construction math and measurement skills
• Report writing and quality documentation
• Basic computer skills (Excel, QC software)
• Knowledge of construction site and plant safety practices
