Executive Vice President and Chief Financial OfficerUnited Way of Tarrant County (UWTC) is seeking a strategic, data-driven, and forward-thinking leader to serve as our next EVP and Chief Financial Officer (CFO). From shaping financial strategy to overseeing all financial compliance, this role oversees the employees of the finance department and the overall work of UWTC in a continually evolving environment across Tarrant County.The CFO is responsible for all financial matters of the organization, including financial strategy, accurate financial reporting, and risk management. The CFO will report to and work closely with the President and CEO and will partner with the senior leadership and the board of directors to develop and implement financial strategies across the organization. The CFO will oversee all compliance and recognition for government (federal and state) contracts and private grants. The CFO must be able to adapt to a continually evolving environment and thrive in an autonomous and deadline-oriented workplace while managing the entire finance department and staff.Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesFinanceEnsure the operation of the organization within the board-approved budgetReport financial conditions and results of the operations through an accounting system that conforms to the requirements of applicable accounting standardsOversee cash flow planning and forecasting and ensure availability of financial resources in a timely mannerOversee cash, investment, and asset management and ensure the maximum income is earned through investmentsManage endowment and pension plan investments through third party institutionsOversee financing strategies and activities, as well as banking relationshipsDevelop and utilize forward-looking, predictive models and activity-based financial analyses to provide insight into the organization's operations and business plansFoster organizational relationships throughout the County through board service and representing UWTC through attendance at community eventsPlanning, Policy, and Investor RelationsCoordinate the development and monitoring of budgetsDevelop financial business plans and forecastsParticipate in corporate policy development as a member of the senior management teamEngage the Audit and Finance committee of the board of directors to develop short-, medium-, and long-term financial plans and projectionsRepresent the company to financial partners, including financial institutions, investors, foundation executives, auditors, public officials, etc.Remain up to date on nonprofit audit best practices and state and federal law regarding nonprofit operations in order to manage the external audits and required reportingAccounting and AdministrationOversee the accounting department to ensure proper maintenance of all accounting systems and function and supervise the finance staffEnsure maintenance of appropriate internal controls and financial proceduresEnsure timeliness, accuracy, and usefulness of financial and management reporting for federal and state funders, foundations, and the board of directors; oversee the preparation and communication of monthly and annual financial statementsCoordinate audits and proper filing of tax returnsEnsure legal and regulatory compliance regarding all financial functionsManagement and supervision of facilities management of five service center buildingsStaff representation of Audit and Finance Committee in reporting quarterly financial results of operationsStaff representation of Investment Committee in reporting and reviewing quality and performance of investmentsCoordination of annual audits of financial statements by external independent auditorsAssistance to member agencies for improvement of accounting systems and business management techniquesIdentify, manage, and mitigate organizational riskEnsure adequate organizational insurance coverageAdditional duties as requested by the President and CEOEssential Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) will be a seasoned and mature leader with at least 15 years of broad finance experience, ideally beginning in audit, followed by experience gathering and evaluating financial information and making actionable recommendations to senior leadership. The candidate will ideally have experience managing finance (accounting, budgeting, control, and reporting) for a complex nonprofit with multiple funding sources including government (federal and state) contracts and an affiliate structure with diverse program areas delivered nationally.Must be eligible to work in the United States (No Sponsorship)At least 15 years of broad finance experience, preferably in a nonprofit organization with a budget of at least $20 millionExperience in a senior financial-management role, partnering with executive staff, resulting in the development and implementation of creative financial management strategiesSignificant experience in or knowledge of nonprofit accounting, including sophisticated fund and grant accounting, compliance, and reportingDeep knowledge and understanding of the Office of Management and Budget Circular A133 auditExperience working with information technology staff to manage finance and accounting software packagesTechnologically savvy with advanced knowledge of accounting and reporting software and MS OfficeKeen analytic, organization and critical thinking skills which allows for strategic data interpretation versus simple reportingExcellent verbal and written communication skillsDemonstrated leadership ability, team management, and interpersonal skillsExcellent analytical and abstract reasoning skills, plus excellent organization skillsEducational Requirements:Must have a degree in Finance or Accounting. MBA or a Master-level degree or CPA strongly preferred.Personal Skills and Attributes:Excellent leadership, team building, interpersonal and time management skillsA high energy, results-oriented leader and must be an initiative-taker with little supervision requiredAn individual with the utmost professional and personal integrityOutstanding collaboration skills through effective communicationBusiness savvy with the ability to engage, influence, access risk, issues, and prioritiesPersonal values consistent with United Way missionWork Hours/Environment:Traditional work hours (Monday-Friday 8 a.m. – 5 p.m.) are standard with occasional weekend, late night, or early morning hours. Although remote work is permitted for this position, the individual must reside primarily in North Texas and work from the office on a regular basis.The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.
