Environmental Health & Safety Specialist

The Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) Specialist provides temporary coverage for Design & Engineering (D&E) laboratory operations during an employee maternity leave. The position supports laboratory safety, regulatory compliance, incident management, safety programs, industrial hygiene activities, reporting, and stakeholder communication for the Silicon Valley site.

Key Responsibilities

• Incident Management and Investigation
• Lead investigations of near misses, incidents, injuries, good catches, and safety observations.
• Conduct root cause analyses and define corrective and preventive actions.
• Coordinate and track corrective actions through closure.
• Prepare investigation reports and communicate findings to D&E management.
• Manage incident records and workflows in Intelex.
• Laboratory Safety and Compliance
• Conduct monthly D&E laboratory inspections.
• Track findings, corrective actions, and closure status.
• Support compliance assessments against internal requirements and applicable regulatory standards.
• Participate in management assessments and audits.
• Arrange annual inspection for lifting equipment
• Safety Program Administration
• Review and approve chemical requests, PPE requests, hazard assessments, and related EHS submissions.
• Support work permit review and approval activities.
• Update and maintain Level 4 (L4) EHS procedures and supporting documentation.
• Industrial Hygiene and Exposure Monitoring
• Coordinate and perform industrial hygiene sampling for lead, beryllium copper, noise, radiation, and other exposure assessments as required.
• Maintain monitoring records and communicate results to relevant stakeholders.
• Support follow-up actions arising from sampling activities.
• Training and Safety Engagement
• Coordinate required EHS training activities and track completion and attendance.
• Support contractor safety engagement activities.
• Deliver or facilitate safety communications and awareness sessions.
• Reporting and Stakeholder Communication
• Prepare monthly EHS performance reports.
• Present safety metrics, inspection results, incident trends, and action status at D&E Staff meetings and D&E Lab Owner Safety meetings.
• Coordinate with site EHS and D&E leadership on emerging risks and mitigation plans.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Occupational Safety, Environmental Health, Industrial Hygiene, Engineering, or a related field.
• Minimum 5 years of EHS experience in laboratory, engineering, manufacturing, semiconductor, or technology environments.
• Experience conducting incident investigations and root cause analysis.
• Knowledge of OSHA requirements and EHS management systems.
• Experience with industrial hygiene sampling programs.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience supporting semiconductor or high-tech R&D laboratories.
• Familiarity with Intelex or an equivalent EHS management system.
• Familiarity with 3E chemical management systems.
• Experience supporting radiation, chemical, and electrical safety programs.
• CIH, CSP, CHMM, or equivalent certification.

Expected Outcomes

• Incident investigations, reports, and corrective-action tracking completed in a timely manner.
• Monthly laboratory inspections completed, with findings and actions tracked to closure.
• Monthly EHS performance reporting prepared and communicated.
• EHS requests, including chemical, PPE, hazard assessment, and work permit requests, reviewed within established service expectations.
• Industrial hygiene sampling records, results, and follow-up actions maintained.
• L4 procedures and supporting documentation kept current.
• EHS training coordination records and attendance tracking maintained.
• Other: 4 days per week onsite
