Job Description Schedule: 7pm‑7:30am (average 24 hours per week) Children’s, the region’s only full‑service pediatric healthcare center, makes us the very best for kids. A Brief Overview Performs a variety of clinical lead functions, including leading and coordinating the daily clinical operational activities of the unit. Ensures the delivery of quality patient care by holding staff accountable to established patient care and regulatory standards. Interprets policies and procedures to clinical and paraprofessional staff and patients/families. Builds, maintains, and supports a culture that fosters effective working relationships within a safe working environment. Supports the unit by providing quality psychotherapy and education to children and families and conducts clinical assessments when needed. Diagnose and treat patients independently. Establishes and maintains professional working relationships with hospital staff, physicians, community agencies, and professionals. Provides professional presentations, interviews, and services that enhance the organization’s visibility and reputation in the community. Essential Functions
CLINICAL OPERATIONS
Managing patient flow in coordination with other leads, supervisors, and team members. Overseeing the delivery of patient care and coordinating admissions, discharges, transfers, and responding to unforeseen events by adjusting patient assignments as needed. Effectively solving problems to maximize resources to maintain patient flow, quality patient care, and open communication between healthcare team members and departments. Ensuring clinical documentation is completed in a timely manner. Following up with team members floating to other areas at least once during the shift, supporting staff who float into the unit clinically, welcoming them as part of the team, and assigning them a buddy. Working collaboratively with leadership to meet staffing challenges, taking accountability for the impact of staffing decisions in the unit. Ensuring that staff have the supplies, equipment, information, and resources needed to provide quality patient care in a safe work environment. Providing effective training on skills and changes within the industry to new and current employees. Remaining current on skills and training and serving as a clinical expert. Playing an integral role in planning for current and future clinical needs and resources.COMMUNICATION
Listening and seeking clarification through the rounding process, completing rounding and using findings to develop solutions to identified issues within scope of accountability. Representing the needs and interests of direct reports to all levels of the leadership structure. Communicating effectively orally and in writing. Taking the initiative to communicate proactively and following up on issues.QUALITY, COMPLIANCE, AND SAFETY
Making changes in clinical assignments based on patient care needs and demonstrated staff competencies. Promoting a safe, therapeutic, customer‑friendly environment, responding promptly to patient, family, and staff concerns and seeking to bring issues to resolution. Providing feedback to the patient care team regarding issues. Demonstrating clinical knowledge needed to coach staff on day‑to‑day activities and pursuing continuous learning to gain additional knowledge in clinical specialty areas. Interacting effectively with members of the health care team to monitor and achieve quality patient outcomes. Exercising problem‑solving skills to optimize patient flow while maintaining quality patient care, collaborating with the healthcare team regarding bed management and ensuring appropriate patient placement based on clinical needs and improving outpatient procedural metrics. Implementing area‑specific policies and practice guidelines in accordance with Children’s policy and regulatory standards using standardized tools and instruments. Holding self and others accountable for behaviors that drive quality improvement and completing audits of practice as defined by the unit/organizational quality plan. Identifying, facilitating, and participating in quality improvement projects that enhance patient care, organizational outcomes, and/or patient satisfaction. Supporting development and implementation of protocols for practice based on evidence. Educating staff and monitoring staff compliance in the cohort, elevating non‑compliance issues. Collecting data on trials for new products and providing education on new product implementation in the moment.BUILDING RELATIONSHIPS AND SERVICE
Managing conflict within scope of responsibility and identifying service recovery strategies that preserve individual dignity and communicating performance against service standards. Utilizing the problem‑solving model to independently and innovatively resolve patient problems and following through to implement solutions. Monitoring service behaviors of the cohort, coaching for consistency among all staff, responding to and managing customer service issues that arise in day‑to‑day work, rounding on patients and families daily, and proactively intervening to address or prevent customer service issues. Assisting to complete investigation of variance reports or other customer service issues at the direction of the manager. Identifying customer service issues other departments may have that affect safe, accurate, timely provision of patient care and efficient use of human and other resources. Supporting the unit Area Action Council by attending team meetings regularly. Supporting other Clinical Supervisors in work they are trying to accomplish. Education Qualifications Master’s Degree from an accredited college or university in social work, counseling, or related field (Required) Experience Qualifications 1‑3 years of experience in behavioral health settings (Required) Experience with children and adolescents in a behavioral health setting (Preferred) Skills And Abilities Must be able to perform a variety of duties, often changing from one task to another of a different nature, without loss of efficiency or composure, and be able to perform under stressful conditions when confronted with multiple requests, demonstrating prioritizing skills. Knowledge of psychological principles, child and adolescent development, inter‑relational dynamics, individual and group behavior, and behavior modification techniques. Interpersonal skills necessary to communicate effectively with patients and families, physicians, and other clinical professionals to gather and exchange patient information. Demonstrates knowledge and skill in providing age‑appropriate care to children, adolescents, adults, and families. Licenses and Certifications Current and valid Independent Mental Health Practitioner Nebraska license or state of Nebraska eligibility (Required upon hire) Non‑Violent Intervention training (Required upon hire) BLS – Basic Life Support current and valid (Required upon hire) Children’s is an equal‑opportunity employer.
