Assistant Professor-Descubriendo la Lectura - School of Education

Texas Womans University

The School of Education at Texas Woman’s University (TWU) invites applications for a tenure‑track position in the Division of Literacy and Language at the Assistant Professor level. This position also includes the responsibility of bilingual trainer of Reading Recovery/Descubriendo la Lectura teacher leaders. The position is expected to begin in August 2026. The Division of Literacy and Language at Texas Woman’s University offers three graduate degrees: Ph.D. in Literacy, Language, and Culture; M.Ed. in Literacy Education; and M. A. in Multilingual and Multicultural studies. Our division provides comprehensive study in literacy teaching and learning in a variety of educational contexts and communities. We are committed to developing and empowering exemplary literacy educators, researchers, and leaders who demonstrate excellence in teaching, research, inquiry, and leadership, and who are responsive to the diverse social and cultural contexts of literacy learning. Faculty in the division actively engage in advocacy, partnerships with schools, and community‑based work to address the evolving needs of literacy learners locally and globally. TWU is one of only two universities in North America authorized to prepare Reading Recovery university Trainers and is home to the world’s only Descubriendo la Lectura center. Reading Recovery and Descubriendo la Lectura (RR/DLL) are internationally recognized early literacy interventions for first graders experiencing difficulty learning to read and write. Both use a trainer‑of‑trainers model: district‑based RR/DLL teacher leaders complete a year of graduate study and ongoing professional development to implement the interventions and prepare RR/DLL teachers in their schools. University Trainers provide this program of study to teacher leaders, who then train teachers within their districts. The individual selected for this position will complete two semesters of customized, post‑doctoral preparation at TWU to qualify as a University Trainer of RR/DLL teacher leaders. This distinctive faculty role offers the opportunity to contribute to internationally recognized literacy interventions that improve early literacy outcomes for children.
