STAR is seeking an experienced, systems-minded leader to serve as our Director of Organizational Development. This executive-level position is responsible for strengthening the people, development, compliance, and administrative systems that support STAR's mission and long-term sustainability. The Director works collaboratively with the CEO, Finance Director, Director of Survivor Services, program managers, and Board of Directors to translate organizational priorities into effective systems, clear processes, and measurable results.

Location: Open to Baton Rouge or New Orleans

 

Key Responsibilities

The Director of Organizational Development provides leadership across four primary areas:

• Fund Development & Grant Administration: Lead STAR's grants and funding pipeline, coordinate complex proposals and reporting requirements, maintain funder and donor records, support donor cultivation and fundraising initiatives, and monitor development performance and funding risks.
• Compliance & Policy: Maintain organization-wide compliance systems for grants, contracts, accreditation, policies, insurance, and other requirements. Coordinate audits, monitoring activities, policy development, contract administration, and corrective action processes while identifying and escalating organizational risks.
• Human Resources & Workforce Systems: Oversee recruitment and applicant tracking, onboarding, personnel documentation, required credentials and training, workforce planning, and employee-development initiatives. Partner with supervisors and executive leadership to promote consistent and effective people-management practices.
• Organizational Development & Leadership: Develop cross-functional workflows, administrative controls, templates, and accountability systems; identify opportunities for continuous improvement; support strategic planning and organizational change; supervise assigned staff; and participate in executive-level planning, budgeting, risk management, and decision-making.

The Director will also represent STAR professionally with funders, donors, partners, vendors, and community stakeholders while promoting a workplace culture grounded in equity, inclusion, accountability, collaboration, and trauma-informed practice.

 

Qualifications

Candidates must have a bachelor's degree in nonprofit management, public administration, business, human resources, communications, social work, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of relevant education and experience. Applicants should have at least five years of progressively responsible experience in nonprofit administration, development, human resources, compliance, or organizational leadership.

Successful candidates will have demonstrated grant writing and grant-management experience, including coordinating complex proposals and reporting deadlines. Strong project management, systems development, writing, editing, communication, and relationship-building skills are essential. Candidates must be able to manage confidential information, exercise sound judgment, balance competing priorities, and successfully move complex projects from planning through completion. Proficiency with Microsoft Office and cloud-based document systems and the ability to learn STAR's HR, project-management, donor, and grants platforms are also required.

Preferred qualifications include a master's degree or relevant professional credential; nonprofit fundraising, donor stewardship, sponsorship, or institutional funding experience; experience with nonprofit HR administration, accreditation, regulatory compliance, audits, or board governance; and knowledge of trauma-informed organizations, sexual assault services, or community-based victim services.
