Assistant Store Manager

Summary The Assistant in Training (AIT) and Assistant Manager positions are primarily focused on fulfilling Buckle’s mission to create the most enjoyable shopping experience possible for our Guests. AITs and Assistant Managers perform a variety of sales, merchandising and operational tasks assigned by store management (e.g., cashiering, merchandise display and pulls, register procedures, and routine cleaning of facilities). They work directly with the Store Manager and Leadership Team to develop sales, recruit new teammates and provide leadership. AITs and Assistant Managers share responsibility for training and motivating teammates and act as the Store Manager in their absence. The Assistant Manager role builds on the AIT position and includes additional high‑level duties specific to that level, though most job duties and responsibilities are shared. Compensation & Benefits Pay range: $20–$24/hr. The estimated range is the budgeted amount for this position; final offers are based on skill set, experience, location, qualifications, and other factors. For sales positions, Buckle pays a base rate plus commission on sales. The range listed is the estimated base rate plus commission for teammates in this position. Essential Duties And Responsibilities This description outlines the general nature and level of work performed by teammates in this role. It is not exhaustive and reasonable accommodations may be made for disabilities. Sales Generation and Guest Service Greet guests with a friendly, engaging attitude and provide legendary service. Answer questions about the store and merchandise. Recommend, select, and help locate merchandise based on guest needs. Suggest additional items and create a wardrobe experience. Demonstrate product using knowledge and share that education with the team. Maintain knowledge of current sales, promotions, payment and return policies, and security practices. Seek opportunities to impact teammates’ presentations with the Sales Presentation Guide (SPG). Achieve personal sales‑per‑hour, average sales, and net sales goals set by management. Provide legendary service in the front 5, sales floor, fitting rooms, and register area. Know exchange and return procedures and turn them into show‑manship opportunities. Use the SPG daily to accomplish goals. Meet or exceed performance standards in Buckle business builders and guest loyalty. Expand guest selection through inventory manager and advanced product search. Build good guest relationships to develop a client‑based business. Lead by example with high show‑manship, excellent customer service, and attentiveness. Recognize and communicate guest levels with the team. Ask business‑driven and show‑manship questions to the manager and teammates. Welcome feedback from management to improve sales presentations. Perform leadership actions and maintain standards, even in the manager’s absence. Plan sales goals with the store manager. Take ownership of the store’s sales performance (sales, average sale, business builders, denim). Passion for product education and show‑manship to create results. Teammate Recruiting, Training and Development Identify recruiting opportunities through Jobs & Careers cards, email referrals, and teammates recommend. Coach and build relationships using guest loyalty programs. Develop skills and coach new teammates to meet Buckle accountability, shift orientation, loss prevention, and sales presentation standards. Maintain a positive attitude to foster a positive floor culture. Demonstrate personal dress code and coach teammates. Participate in daily setup, training, and performance tracker reviews. Motivate teammates to complete daily tasks set by management. Show passion for denim show‑manship and denim fit cards. Develop results in your department and balance all DM actions. Track actions from department calendars on the weekly delegation worksheet. Demonstrate leadership actions during segments. Engage guests with product. Communicate with fellow leaders and the team. Remember guest names. Understand product on both the Gals and Guys sides. Collaborate with the store manager on education focus and delegate throughout the week. Execute all segments to support business goals. Assist the store manager in recruiting staffing needs. Explain pay and Buckle benefits. Maintain contact list and add top talent consistently. Provide leadership playbook training. Accountability for characteristic pieces. SPG teammate/leader training shifts. Train and coach with manager on all non‑sales positions. Execute actions in changing sales focuses. Identify and follow through on all teammate training needs. Visual Merchandise Management Own and influence product through zone ownership and daily mentorship. Execute and demonstrate new tools and videos for zone ownership. Collaborate with the store manager on all four zones. Ensure teammates follow visual standards and weekly checklists. Recognize merchandising opportunities and communicate recommendations. Show the store in an appealing way. Maintain consistent sales floor sizing and new freight display. Use the performance tracker to improve visual results. Anticipate changes in product and act independently. Maintain visual standards on floor and backroom. Operations Work a flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends, and holidays. Utilize planner and complete opening and closing checklists. Detect security risks and apply loss prevention procedures. Follow loss prevention guidelines, including bag and purse checks. Execute all point of sale procedures. Handle calls from corporate office appropriately. Maintain a positive attitude with challenging situations. Understand and execute policies on payments, returns, exchanges, and loss prevention. Navigate and use tools on the home page. Provide guidance and feedback to non‑sales positions. Cover shifts as needed. Keep a clean, organized, shoppable store. Provide feedback to management on merchandise concerns. Report policy violations confidentially. Apply Buckle’s Code of Ethics and all policies. Other duties as assigned. Ensure new hire paperwork is completed accurately. Plan for weekly, monthly, and yearly operations. Train others on opening/closing checklists. Execute markdowns, pulls, freight, and returns. Maintain supply inventory. Handle emergencies in the manager’s absence. Supervisory and Leadership Receive and give feedback to peers and management. Support leadership initiatives. Promote personal and store growth. Maintain a professional, mature relationship with teammates. Conduct daily interviews for team development. Obtain solutions for objections and problems. Self‑educate on company tools and share knowledge. Administer the Buckle Commitment to Success. Travel and cover other stores as needed. Handle schedule changes professionally. Contribute to a positive team spirit while meeting the mission. Complete special projects and duties as assigned. Supervisory Responsibilities Assists the store manager in supervision. Education And/or Experience High school diploma or GED; or one to three months of related retail experience and/or training; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Additional Qualifications Relocation may be required. No visa sponsorship is available. Ability to operate a motor vehicle and travel, including overnight stays, as required. Physical Demands Regular standing, walking, handling, reaching, climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, talking, hearing. Occasional sitting. Must lift and maneuver 50 lbs. Vision requirements: close, distance, color, peripheral, depth, and focus adjustment. Work Environment Regularly works in a retail store setting. Noise level is usually moderate.
