Senior Estimator - Piping, Plumbing and Sheet Metal

Senior EstimatorThe purpose of your role as a Senior EstimatorThe senior estimator will prepare portions of contract proposal estimates for one or more disciplines, including the determination of applicable project plans and specifications. This posting requires advanced knowledge of mechanical piping and either plumbing, or sheet metal systems. This individual will independently estimate plan/spec, design assist or design build projects of all types and sizes.Estimating, Proposing, and Assessing:Develop proposal and drawings to determine scope of work and required contents of estimateEstimate sizes, distances, and quantities; or determine time, costs, resources, or materials needed to perform a work activityAnalyze plans and other documentation to prepare time, cost, materials, and labor estimatesPrepare estimates by calculating complete takeoff of scope of work and required contents of estimateReview proposal specifications and drawings to determine scope of work and required contents of estimateReview design options and recommend best solution based on cost, engineering quality, or availability of materialsDevelop proposals for current or prospective customersDevelop and deliver accurate project cost estimatesAssess cost effectiveness of products, projects or services, comparing actual costs relative to bids as the project developsPrepare cost and expenditure statements and other necessary documentation at regular intervals for the duration of the projectSet up cost monitoring and reporting systems and proceduresReview material and labor requirements to determine most cost-effective outcomeObtain quotes from subcontractors and vendors, adhering to scope and specificationAdminister system including software upgrades, training and pricing updatesDocumentation:Document account activities, generate reports, and keep records of business transactions with customers and suppliersOrganize and maintain files of working documents as back-up for estimate figuresTeam Collaboration and Relationship Building:Support other department personnel as required - may include preparing estimates in other disciplinesContribute to the desired culture within the organizationContribute to a safety-centric work cultureProvide training and mentorship to other Harris team membersReview all final estimate packages to insure accuracy and completeness, prior to peer reviewParticipate in presentations to corporate management and clientsProvide technical assistance in negotiating contracts, change orders, etc. as requiredAssist project turnover process including turnover meeting, job set-up and pre-planning meetingsMay provide work direction and delegate tasks/duties to other estimatorsDevelop customer partnerships to generate long term relationships and ongoing opportunitiesEncourage and build mutual trust, respect, and cooperation with clientsWhat we're looking for in youBachelor's degree in engineering preferred or 5-7 years of equivalent experience5+ years of experience in estimating, engineering, or trade experience related to mechanical constructionsAdvanced knowledge of Construction Project ManagementKnowledge of corporate objectives impacting estimating, estimating strategies and techniques, and construction contractsAdvanced understanding and experience with the proposal interview processIn-depth knowledge of plumbing, piping, or sheet metal systemsAbility to interpret computerized cost data and systemsAdvanced understanding/knowledge of Mechanical estimating software including the ability to maintain and troubleshootSolid knowledge of the cost components of an estimateUnderstanding of SMACNA and MCAA guidelinesAdvanced knowledge with Microsoft Office – Word and ExcelYour life at HarrisAs one of the country's leading mechanical contractors, Harris offers the stability, resources, and opportunities of a national company along with the team culture, creative spirit, and customer loyalty of a local business.
