Heavy Duty Diesel Mechanic | North Haven, CT Island Transportation operates over 30 units out of each of its four locations, delivering petroleum products throughout the Tri‑State area. All four locations are currently hiring qualified mechanics. Job Overview We are seeking a skilled Heavy Duty Diesel Mechanic to join our team. As a Diesel Mechanic, you will be responsible for diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining diesel engines and tank trailers. This is a hands‑on role that requires strong technical knowledge and excellent problem‑solving skills. Qualified mechanics are paid $34.00 per hour and can receive an additional $1.50 if certified Air Brakes. Must have own tools . Prior diesel experience preferred but not required. Responsibilities Perform routine maintenance on diesel engines, including oil changes, filter replacements, and fluid checks. Diagnose and repair mechanical and electrical issues in diesel engines and vehicles. Conduct thorough inspections of diesel engines to identify any potential problems or malfunctions. Use diagnostic equipment to troubleshoot and diagnose engine issues. Repair or replace faulty components, such as fuel injectors, alternators, and starters. Perform air brake system repairs and maintenance. Conduct vehicle inspections to ensure compliance with safety regulations. Keep accurate records of all repairs and maintenance performed. Skills Strong knowledge of diagnostics and repair techniques. Proficiency in soldering and welding. Experience with air brake systems. Familiarity with vehicle maintenance procedures. Ability to work independently as well as part of a team. Proven experience as a diesel mechanic or service technician is preferred. Tire service experience is a plus. Strong attention to detail.
