Special Education Head Teacher

You’ll lead a self-contained classroom and help create a safe, engaging, and supportive environment where students can thrive.

Position Details

Salary: $72,000–$100,900 DOE (Depending on Experience)

Schedule: Monday–Friday | 8:15 AM–3:30 PM

Employment Type: Exempt | 10-Month Agreement

Academic Calendar: 10-Month School Calendar

What You’ll Do

• Create and implement engaging classroom activities that support students’ emotional, social, intellectual, and physical development.

• Develop individualized instruction using a variety of teaching strategies, materials, and resources.

• Assess and document student progress through formal and informal assessments, observations, and student work.

• Develop weekly and daily lesson plans based on individual student needs and educational goals.

• Maintain accurate student records, progress reports, portfolios, attendance, and parent communications.

• Provide students with appropriate support during inclusion experiences.

• Establish consistent classroom routines and positive behavior-management strategies.

• Create a safe, welcoming, and organized classroom environment.

• Communicate regularly with parents, colleagues, and outside professionals.

• Collaborate with related-service providers and participate in weekly planning meetings.

• Provide direction and support to assistant teachers, paraprofessionals, and related-service providers.

• Participate in professional development, staff meetings, training, and professional growth activities.

• Help prepare students for emergency procedures and maintain a safe school environment.

What We’re Looking For

• Master’s Degree required

• Current Teacher Certification required

• Prior experience working with students with disabilities preferred

• Strong communication and collaboration skills

• Ability to develop meaningful, individualized instruction

• Commitment to creating a positive, supportive, and engaging classroom environment

• Ability to work effectively with students, families, educators, and related-service professionals

Physical Requirements

Candidates must be able to safely navigate the school environment and have the ability to:

• Walk, run, sit, and stand

• Move quickly forward, backward, and laterally

• Bend and stoop

• Push, pull, and lift
