Essential Responsibilities:
Ensure high academic standards are set for and met by all students
Plan and co-implement individualized curricular and instructional adaptations (accommodations and modifications) for students with individualized education programs (IEPs) with co-teachers based on curriculum and student needs
Collaborate with co-teachers to co-instruct and provide rigorous, standards-based learning to students with IEPs and whole classes
Execute rigorous, small-group, specially designed instruction based on individual needs of students
Use student performance data derived from curriculum-based measures, normative assessments, and summative assessments to drive instructional decision-making and IEP development
Design and implement high-quality IEPs that effectively describe student strengths and needs with clear learning goals and performance criteria
Serve as case manager for at least 2 students receiving special education services participating in ongoing staff orientation and training.
Qualifications:
A Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university
A Master's degree in Special Education, Education, or relevant content area (preferred)
New York State Certification in Special Education, Teaching Students with Disabilities 5-9 or 7-12
Demonstrated success working in an urban school setting
Preferred: experience adapting lessons for individualized needs of students with disabilities ranging from accommodations to modifications
Strong data tracking and analysis skills
An ability to communicate and collaborate effectively with colleagues, families, and students
A belief that everyone is gifted with a unique potential
A commitment to character development and family partnerships
