Tutor - Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics

Position Summary This is a district-wide position. Supports STEM students in achieving educational goals by providing professional assistance appropriate to courses. Primary Duties Performed Provides individual and small group tutoring sessions in various academic disciplines in order to facilitate student mastery of concepts or applications of a specific course of study. Facilitates learning as a coach or mentor to assist students in becoming successful, independent learners. Integrates effective study and learning strategies to maximize students’ potential for academic progress. May assist students with the use of institutional and instructional technology. Assists with the development and delivery of tutor training. Creates supplemental materials including but not limited to handouts, study guides, and tip sheets for support center staff to use with students. Administers one-credit courses associated with academic labs (if applicable). Attends scheduled staff meetings and takes initiative to sustain and improve daily operations. Remains current on best practices, research and literature in the tutoring field. Other duties as assigned. Qualifications/Experience Bachelors or Associates degree in a STEM related field. Experience directly working with students on academic skills. Knowledge of and experience with active learning and tutoring pedagogies.
