Risk Control Consultant

AMERIND is a federally chartered,tribally owned corporation, formed under Section 17 of the Indian Reorganization Act (25 U.S.C. § 5124) by its Members, the governmental units of federally recognized Tribal Nations that administer federally funded housing programs for American Indian and Alaska Native families. AMERIND has the operating authority to work with Tribal Governments, Enterprises, and Citizens for Property and Liability, Workers Compensation, Homeowners and Renters, Employee Benefits coverage, Fleet Auto coverage, and Critical Infrastructure development. Job Responsibilities Providesmembers, clients, andpolicyholdersvaluableconsultative risk control, risk management, and loss prevention services and strategies. Researchesandinvestigatescustomer and employee accidents; performsaccident statistical analysis; makesrecommendations to reduce accidents. Provideswritten and verbal recommendations on safety procedures, programs, equipment, etc. to members and clients/customers. Conductstrainingfor AMERIND employees, members, and stakeholders on occupational safety, loss prevention, andemergency preparedness. Assistsin developing, coordinating, and implementing services, programs, and activities to ensure safety measures are in place for clients. Assistsin conducting safety analysis for members asrequested; followsthrough with recommendations. Providesconsultative loss prevention,riskcontrol services,and trainingto clients and policyholders. Conductscomprehensive commercial property surveys and liability risk assessments for commercialcustomersand AMERINDmembers toidentifypotential risk exposures and hazards and to recommend improved risk controls. Activelyparticipatesin and providessupport forleadership,regional and national,Native American focusedconferences, events, training/professionaldevelopment, and association meetings to build relationships, market new business, and networkswith industry leaders. Providessupport, education and resources to members and customers pertinent to emergency action plans, response protocols, and mitigation strategies. Maintainsproper recordsin accordance withcompany policies onrecordsretention.Accurate andtimelydocumentation of client interactions, risk assessments, property surveys,recommendationsand implemented risk control measures. Conductsclaims andunderwriting-directedfield support. Keepsabreast ofnew technologiesand principles by conducting research, attending seminars, educational workshops, classes, and conferences; reviewing professional publications;establishingnetworks;participatingin professional societies; conferring with representatives of contracting agencies and related organizations. Supportsthe efforts of AMERIND’s Safety Committeeinsafeguardingpersonnel and company assets,preparingthe organization and its personnel for potentialaccidentsoremergencies,andaidingorganizational response and post-incident recoveryeffortsas necessary. Participatesin cross-functional team process-improvement projectsin support of AMERIND’s culture to build teamwork, collaboration, and inclusiveness among team members. Supervision of Others N/A MinimumQualifications Bachelor’s degree in safety, business management, insurance, risk management, or related fieldrequired;And Minimum of three years’ experience in Risk Control or Loss Control for a commercial insurance company Mustpossessa valid driver’s license. No major violations. Travel required over 50% oftime. Must be able to successfully pass a background investigation. No felony, theft, or fraud convictions. Additional Eligibility Requirements New employees must complete theAssociate in Insurance(AINS) designation within six months from the end of the 90-day evaluation periodtobe eligible for advancement and incentive compensation. For continued employment, employees must complete an elective course and six hours of professional development within 12 months after the end ofthe90-day evaluation period. Knowledge/Skills/Abilities Knowledge of fraud detection. Knowledgeableof internal investigation and interview techniques. Knowledgeable ofstandard principles and practices in areas of specialty. Knowledge and understanding of the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA). Knowledge of department organization, functions,objectives, policies, and procedures. Ability to communicate effectively in the English language, both verbally and in writing with staff and the public. Ability to prioritize, workindependentlyandaccomplishtasks within strict deadlines. Ability to create, compose, and edit written materials. Ability to develop, implement, and enforce safety programs and protocols. Ability tomaintainconfidentiality. Ability tooperatevarious environmental equipment. Ability to communicate technical information to non-technical personnel; plan and conduct safety training to individuals and groups and conduct effective meetings. Ability to investigate, gather data, compile information, analyze information, drawconclusionsand prepare reports. Skill in operating various word-processing, spreadsheets, and database software programs in a Windows environment. Skill in preparing, reviewing, and analyzing operational and financial reports. Skill in conducting investigations and research. Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community. Working Conditions & Physical Demands Typical business office setting with moderate noise level and outdoor settings with a high noise level. Non-office environment may beencounteredfor offsite presentations and support of company activities. Exposure to natural weather conditions and temperatures, various dusts, smoke and mists, and normal debris and hazards may occur while performing outdoor duties. Must be able to sit for work at a computer for more than 6 hours per day. Must be able to stand and walk for more than 6 hours per day when on client site or at events. Must be able to use hands for dexterity of motion and reach with hands and arms. Extensive use of computer keyboards. Frequently required to talk and hear. Must haveabilityto occasionally lift 40+ lbs. Physical Exam Employee isrequired to successfully pass an annual physical exam to certify that theemployeeis capable of performingthe physical demands of the job as described above.
