RN Quality Consultant

A Brief Overview The Quality Consultant RN evaluates, plans, implements, and assesses quality and patient safety initiatives across Stanford Medicine Partners and the broader Stanford Health Care enterprise. This role uses clinical expertise, data analysis, and quality improvement methodologies to identify opportunities and coordinate improvements in processes and outcomes. Locations Stanford Medicine Partners What You Will Do Review patient safety incidents and follow up with clinic leaders to eliminate or mitigate risk of patient harm. Refer cases to other departments as appropriate. Develop mechanisms for communicating patient safety learnings, best practices, and process improvements. Coordinate implementation of patient safety initiatives such as Just Culture and the Culture of Safety survey, collaborating with SHC and SHC Tri‑Valley to standardize and align patient safety review processes. Identify barriers to the implementation of patient safety initiatives, recommend corrective measures, and execute improvements. Track and evaluate the effectiveness of implemented changes and adjust as needed. Provide training and consultation to staff, management, and clinicians on using the patient safety incident reporting system, emphasizing near‑miss reporting. Review and analyze data from quality databases to identify trends and opportunities. Design and develop data collection tools and dashboards to aggregate, analyze, and visualize data. Apply quality improvement tools and methodologies such as PDSA, Lean Six Sigma, and Statistical Process Control for performance improvement projects. Guide and support clinical teams, committees, and workgroups on quality improvement methodologies. Partner with clinic leaders to implement evidence‑based practices for patient safety, infection control, and clinical standards. Ensure adherence to regulatory requirements, accreditation standards, and industry best practices. Conduct in‑depth chart reviews of quality‑of‑care grievances and peer review cases. Generate SBAR summaries of findings and recommendations. Collaborate with stakeholders to develop or revise policies and procedures related to quality and patient safety. Prioritize productivity by focusing on goals and allocating resources effectively. Deliver written reports and projects within appropriate timeframes. Manage tasks, set priorities, and revise plans for effective time management. Perform other duties as assigned within the department and enterprise. Adhere to C‑I‑CARE, safety, HIPAA, and compliance policies. Education Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Nursing from an accredited college or university. Preferred: Master’s degree in Nursing, healthcare, or business administration. Experience Qualifications Minimum of five (5) years of progressively responsible, directly related experience within a large acute‑care hospital or ambulatory health care system. Knowledge of performance improvement methodologies such as Lean and Six Sigma. Knowledge of project management and change management methodologies. Ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary environment. Advanced quantitative skills and ability to use statistics for data evaluation. Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Strong communication, collaboration, influencing, teamwork, project, and time‑management skills. Demonstrated ability to implement new programs/projects with a focus on continuous improvement across multiple sites concurrently. Knowledge of licensure and scope of practice for various healthcare disciplines. Competency in Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint. Working knowledge of statistical analysis and reporting practices for quality improvement and program evaluation. Commitment to continuous education and networking with affiliates, organizations, and other health care providers. Experience with Epic, Midas, and other clinical applications. Effective cooperation in flexible, collaborative environments. Licenses & Certifications CA‑RN (Registered Nurse) CPHQ – Health Care Quality Certification (preferred) CPPS – Certified Professional in Patient Safety (preferred) Lean Six Sigma Certification (preferred) Project Management Certification (preferred) Just Culture Certification (preferred) Physical Demands & Work Conditions Typical duties include sitting, walking, standing, bending, squatting, lifting up to 40 lbs, carrying 0–40 lbs, and repetitive hand movements. Work involves exposure to biohazards such as bloodborne pathogens. Typical environmental conditions include working around equipment, moderate noise, and standard temperature and humidity levels. Travel Requirements Approximately 20% travel across the SHC enterprise.
