Our organization is excited to announce an opportunity for a passionate, motivated, and empathetic Emergency Medicine Physician.

We are looking for an Emergency Medicine physician to join the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) at the VA Medical Center. This role involves delivering urgent and potentially life-saving medical assistance to Veterans visiting the Emergency Department.

• Assessment and Stabilization:
  • Quickly evaluate and stabilize Veterans experiencing acute illnesses, injuries, or worsening chronic conditions.
  • Conduct initial assessments, request necessary laboratory tests and imaging, and commence treatment.
• Emergency Procedures:
  • Carry out emergency interventions such as airway management (intubation), cardiac resuscitation (CPR/ACLS), wound repairs, fracture management, and procedural sedation.
• Multidisciplinary Care Coordination:
  • Work alongside various specialties (cardiology, surgery, psychiatry, etc.) for patient consultations, admissions, or transfers.
  • Collaborate with nurses, social workers, and other team members to ensure comprehensive, Veteran-centered care.
• Management of Diverse Cases:
  • Address both medical and psychiatric emergencies, including chest pain, stroke, sepsis, trauma, suicidal thoughts, and substance withdrawal.
  • Attend to the specific health needs of Veterans, such as service-related injuries, PTSD, and military sexual trauma.
• Disposition Decisions:
  • Assess whether Veterans can be safely discharged, admitted, or need to be transferred to a higher level of care.
  • Provide clear follow-up instructions, medication guidance, and warning signs to watch for.
• Documentation and Compliance:
  • Record all care provided in the VA Electronic Health Record system.
  • Comply with VA policies, procedures, and regulatory standards, including those established by The Joint Commission.
• Disaster and Mass Casualty Response:
  • Engage in hospital-wide disaster planning, drills, and emergency response initiatives.

The position requires (6) 12-hour shifts and (1) 8-hour shift every two weeks (per pay period).
