Job Description
Job Title: Psychiatric Technician
Profession: Patient Care Tech
Specialty: Psychiatric Unit
Duration: 13 weeks
Shift: Evenings
Hours per Shift: 8 hours (3 PM - 11:30 PM)
Experience: Minimum of 2 years in nursing or psychiatric/behavioral healthcare in a high-volume, intensive care environment
License: Graduate of a State-Approved Patient Care Technician program
Certifications: Current BLS (Basic Life Support) certification, Completion and certification for vital signs, phlebotomy, EKGs and blood glucose monitoring, Crisis intervention training (e.g., CPI, TRUST, TCI)

Must-Have:
High school diploma or GED
Minimum of 2 years of experience in nursing or psychiatric/behavioral healthcare
Ability to engage with children and adolescents in a trauma-informed and developmentally appropriate manner

Description:
The Psychiatric Technician is an integral member of the behavioral health team.
This role provides direct patient care and clinical support under the supervision of registered nurses.
The position ensures safety on the unit and engages patients in therapeutic activities.
Support is provided to children and adolescents with daily needs during hospitalization.
The Psychiatric Technician performs clinical tasks including phlebotomy, EKGs, and point-of-care testing.
This is done as part of a trauma-informed and developmentally sensitive model of care.
Completion of an appropriate training program in the application and use of restraints and seclusion is required.
Experience in acute inpatient psychiatry or behavioral health settings is preferred.
Engagement with youth in a developmental and supportive manner is crucial to this role.
