Description

American Traveler is seeking a Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) with critical care experience for a night shift position at a high-volume Level I Trauma Center serving adult and geriatric populations.

Details

• Acute care teaching hospital setting — a 703-bed facility and the region's only Level I Trauma Center (Adult & Pediatric)
• Unit serves adolescents, adults, and geriatric patients across a high-volume ER, Neurotrauma, cardiovascular services, and medical/surgical ICU
• Patient ratio of 1:25
• Robust Assess and Treat protocol in place, with ventilator management and liberation policy
• Equipment includes Servo I, Servo U, V-60 BiPAP, Optiflow heated high flow, iNO with the iNOvent, and LTV1200
• Epic EMR experience required
• Night shift, 3x12-hour shifts (7p–7a); 4x12 schedule available upon request
• Weekend requirement: every other weekend (EOW) or 6 weekend shifts per 6-week scheduling block
• Floating within skillset is required
• Must work one holiday per 13-week contract
• 13-week contract; extensions up to 26 weeks available upon request

Requirements

• RRT credential issued by the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC) required; CRT not accepted
• VA Licensed Respiratory Care Practitioner required; other state licenses accepted with the requirement to obtain a 90-day temporary authorization while the VA permanent license is processed
• Current BLS and ACLS certifications required
• Critical care experience in a high-volume ER and/or Level I Trauma Center required, including Neurotrauma, cardiovascular services, and medical/surgical ICU
• Proficiency in aerosol and medication delivery systems (mask, trach, MDI, Medihaler) and administration of Albuterol, Atrovent, Combivent, Flovent, Pulmicort, Mucomyst, racemic epinephrine, inhaled Flolan, inhaled steroids, bicarbonate, and lidocaine
• Competency in ABG interpretation and ventilator management including BiPAP, CPAP, HFNC, flow-by, troubleshooting high-pressure alarms, and weaning from mechanical ventilation
• Airway management skills including extubation, oral/nasal airway placement, suctioning, sputum collection, and tracheostomy care
• Proficiency in oxygen therapy and nebulizer setups (handheld, T-piece, trach collar, ultrasonic)
• Valid driver's license and Social Security card required for consideration
• Two professional references required for consideration
• License required if applicable

• First-time travelers are accepted; one year of prior travel experience is preferred
• Local candidates are not accepted; a radius rule applies to determine eligibility
• All RTO, block scheduling, and special scheduling requests must be submitted at the time of initial consideration
• Hospital is a Magnet-designated academic teaching facility affiliated with the Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine
• Hospital is certified as an Advanced Thrombectomy Capable Stroke Center and features a dedicated children's hospital
