Founded in 1916, the American Financial Services Association (AFSA) is the primary trade association for the consumer credit industry, protecting access to credit and consumer choice. Our mission is to promote safe, ethical lending to responsible, informed borrowers and to improve and protect consumers’ access to credit. AFSA provides the consumer credit industry and the consumers it services with a voice in Washington, D.C., where the association is headquartered, and access to the media and investment community. AFSA also provides policy advice and issues management at both the federal and state levels.

Position Overview:

The Manager of Federal Government Affairs will advance the organization’s political and other objectives through advocacy, relationship development, and management of AFSAPAC. This role combines fundraising strategy, meeting planning, compliance, and regulatory support for the association’s influence in the consumer credit industry. 

Key Responsibilities:

• Oversee AFSAPAC operations, including contribution solicitations, donor engagement, disbursement tracking, and compliance with federal and state laws.

• Manage the planning and execution of PAC fundraising campaigns and events, including donor education, solicitations, and special programming for contributors at AFSA’s conferences each year. 

• Collaborate with the Federal Government Affairs department to develop PAC and other federal affairs communications, materials, and event content.

• Monitor legislative, regulatory, and political developments that affect the organization.

• Serve as Staff Liaison to AFSA Committees and Networking Groups as assigned.

• Draft summaries of relevant documents (such as rule proposals and court cases) for the Federal Government Affairs and Legal/Regulatory departments.

• Update department websites.

Experience:

• Job Requirements/Qualifications/Knowledge.

• Bachelor’s degree in political science, public policy, business, or related field is preferred.

• 2-5 years of experience within the political or trade association areas.

• Experience in financial institutions desired.

• Must be a self-starter with exceptional editing, writing, and messaging skills. Meticulous attention to detail is essential.

• Must have a commitment to maintaining high standards of quality and ability to work with staff in a cordial and tactful manner.

• Must project a professional demeanor when interacting with association members and government officials. 

• Must abide by AFSA’s Data Confidentiality, Security & Privacy and AI Policies, and other workplace rules.

• Ability to prioritize and coordinate tasks, and to manage multiple deadlines simultaneously in a collaborative work environment.

• Flexibility to adapt to changing priorities and to work as part of a team.

• Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.

• Candidate must be eligible to work in the United States without sponsorship or limitation.

Location and Travel:

• This position will be based in AFSA’s Washington, D.C. headquarters and will report to the office three-days weekly

• This position requires travel to conferences 3 – 5 times annually. Each conference is 3 – 5 days long

Benefits:

AFSA offers a competitive starting salary based on experience and expertise, excellent health benefits, 401K plan, a monthly commuting stipend and a collegial and collaborative work environment with the opportunity for career development. Salary range $70,000 - $85,000 commensurate with experience.
