Pay Range: $22.24hr - $24.00hr

Job Overview:

The main function of a phlebotomist is to assist in performing various assigned duties, troubleshooting, training, and making workflow recommendations.

Position Responsibilities:

• Perform blood draws, label specimens, centrifuge specimens, record maintenance data, and perform decontamination.
• Update patient information accurately within the system.
• Collect and store specimens according to established procedures.
• Explain the process of venipuncture and other specimen collection (e.g., urine or fecal) to patients in a clear and courteous manner.
• Demonstrate proficiency in techniques using straight needles and butterfly needles.
• Fully understand and interpret all physician orders.
• Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes correctly.
• Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by test orders.
• Check all test requisitions or computer labels against scripts to ensure 100% accuracy.
• Package specimens securely for transport.
• Store specimen samples according to required temperatures and place samples in appropriate collection containers.
• Follow specific protocols necessary for transport to maintain the integrity of the specimen.
• Understand and comply with OSHA and DEP regulations.
• Attend annual department trainings as required.
• Answer telephone calls and read laboratory results to satisfy inquiries.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Valid Phlebotomy certification for the state of employment as required.
• Minimum of 6 months of work experience performing venipunctures in a fast-paced lab or hospital setting.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
• High School Diploma or GED.
