Job Description

The primary role of the Phlebotomist II is to assist in performing various duties, troubleshoot issues, provide training, and make workflow recommendations. This position plays a crucial role in ensuring the efficient and accurate collection and processing of specimens.

Responsibilities

• Perform blood draws and label specimens.
• Centrifuge specimens and record maintenance data.
• Conduct decontamination and update patient information.
• Collect and store specimens according to established procedures.
• Explain the process of venipuncture and specimen collection clearly and courteously.
• Demonstrate techniques using straight needles and/or butterfly needles.
• Fully understand physicians' orders and match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes.
• Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by test orders.
• Verify test requisitions or computer labels against scripts to ensure 100% accuracy.
• Package specimens for transport and store samples at the required temperature.
• Place samples in the appropriate collection container/tube and accurately label them.
• Follow procedures as outlined by specific protocols to maintain specimen integrity.
• Understand and comply with OSHA and DEP regulations.
• Attend annual department trainings.
• Answer telephone calls and read laboratory results to satisfy inquiries.

Essential Skills

• Proficient in blood draw and phlebotomy.
• Valid Phlebotomy certification for the state of employment, if required.
• Minimum of 6 months' work experience performing venipunctures in a fast-paced lab or hospital setting.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED.
• 2-4 years of experience in a related field.

Work Environment

Work in a fast-paced lab or hospital setting, requiring attention to detail and adherence to safety and regulatory protocols. The position involves interacting with patients and medical staff, and the ability to handle multiple tasks efficiently.

This is a Contract position based out of Wichita, KS.

The pay range for this position is $19.00 - $20.00/hr.
