Controller

Our client, a media company whose revenue is driven by advertising, is hiring a Controller to run its accounting function and lead the people behind it.

\n

Responsibilities

\n

\n
• Run the monthly close and produce the financial statements, partnering with accounting staff and business owners to shorten the close timeline.
\n
• Manage the year-end audit and build the supporting schedules for audited statements.
\n
• Review journal entries and reconciliations for accuracy and GAAP compliance, and prepare variance analysis.
\n
• Lead and mentor the accounting team, including AP and AR, and build scalable processes for both.
\n
• Own upgrades and new rollouts of accounting systems.
\n
• Produce compliance packages for lenders and reporting for investors.
\n
• Oversee tax compliance at the federal and state level, working with registered agents.
\n
• Partner with the sales side on commission tracking and ad sales reports.

Requirements

\n

\n
• CPA, plus a bachelor’s in accounting or a similar field.
\n
• 10+ years of experience spanning public accounting and private industry.
\n
• Strong technical accounting depth, especially stock-based compensation, revenue recognition and complex transactions.
\n
• Experience reviewing revenue contracts with multiple elements, as well as vendor agreements.
\n
• Prior management of AP and AR teams, including standing up processes and systems.
\n
• Background in media or a start-up preferred, including a solid grasp of advertising revenue models.
\n
• Clear communicator with finance and non-finance colleagues and with executive leadership.
\n
• Comfortable in a fast-paced, changing environment, with a record of improving processes.
