Inpatient Registered Nurse at Surgical Institute of Reading Act as patient advocate, providing continuity of care designed to meet individual patient needs through collaboration with other members of the healthcare team. Assess the needs of adult, pediatric, adolescent, and geriatric patients and support the philosophy, objectives, and goals of the facility. Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities General: Perform assessment/data collection in an ongoing and systematic manner, focusing on physiologic, psychologic, and cognitive status. Formulate a goal‑directed plan of care that is prioritized based on nursing diagnosis and patient outcomes. Implement care in a knowledgeable, skilled, consistent manner to achieve desired patient outcomes through nursing processes. Establish priorities of patient care based on essential patient needs and available resources. Perform efficiently in emergency patient situations following established protocols, remaining calm, informing appropriate persons, and documenting events. Demonstrate applied knowledge in areas of medical/surgical patient care, pharmaceuticals, anesthetic agents, laboratory values, safety, legal issues, and emergency equipment. Practice effective problem identification and resolution skills for sound decision making. Participate in Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) processes and activities with reporting to government agencies. Inpatient Unit: Perform documentation duties on the floor and in the patient record in a timely, accurate, and concise manner. Work as part of a team delivering patient care. Attend all mandatory in‑services and participate in staff meetings. Remain flexible, adaptive, and able to accept and implement new ideas and approaches. Treat all patients equally, adopting the center’s Patient Rights policy. Review and carry out physician orders in an appropriate professional manner. Count narcotics with another nurse, replenish supply as necessary, and adhere to the facility’s medication management protocols. Upon admission to the unit, conduct an initial nursing assessment including: Special dietary needs: demonstrate understanding of dietary triggers for a dietitian consult. Fall risk assessment. Psychosocial needs. Discharge planning. Be knowledgeable about and responsive to emergency situations such as cardiac arrest, drug reaction, fire, disaster, etc. Report and complete appropriate forms for incidents related to patients, visitors, and employees. Ready the area to receive patients. Show willingness to assist with other duties when asked. Demonstrate basic skills for: Drawing laboratory samples. Starting IVs. Basic respiratory treatments. Blood administration. Demonstrate aseptic techniques when addressing: Wound care. Isolation protocols. Treatment Room: Conduct the initial nursing assessment for patients presenting through the emergency service entrance. Initiate basic life support measures if required. Carry out protocols for written emergency services as defined by the organization. Demonstrate knowledge of the hospital’s transfer protocols, including: Contacting the house physician. Assisting the physician in transferring the patient to a higher level of care if required. Completing the patient medical record documentation required for transfer. Completing the required transfer forms. Completing the Triage Log. Perform any additional duties as directed by supervising staff. Qualifications Graduate of an accredited school of nursing. Registered Nurse (RN) licensed in the State of Pennsylvania. 1+ years of registered nurse experience in a hospital setting. Current BLS certification. Current ACLS & PALS certification.
