Advanced Practice Provider - Maternal Evaluation Unit - UAB Women & Infants CenterThe following APPs may be considered for this role: Women's Health Nurse Practitioner or Certified Nurse MidwifeWork schedule: Part-time, benefited12 hr - Rotating/Blended shifts (7am-7pm, 7pm-7am or 12p-12a)9 shifts per month required.Weekends and Holidays are required.No call.Differential Pay per shift (regardless of shift length):PM differential: $120 per night shift (7pm-7am)Evening differential: $45 per evening shift (12p-12a)Weekend differential: $50 per AM shift on weekends (7am-7pm)(Note: Stipends do not stack. The higher of the stipends for the shift is what applies.)CME allowance: Full-time benefited APPs receive an annual $2,000.00 CME allowance. This can be used for recertification, fees, CMEs, etc. that occur after a new employee's start date.Advanced Practice Provider will provide comprehensive evaluation and treatment to low and high-risk antepartum and postpartum patients. The APP will disposition patients appropriately by either discharging home or escalating to physician for admission or disposition home. The APP will work both autonomously and in collaboration with other APP’s and physicians. Experience in obstetrics is preferred but not required. Must be professional, caring, dependable, a team player, and multi-task oriented.The APP will perform the following functions:Formulate and implement patient care plans based on pre-defined clinical pathways for patients presenting to the MEU.Order and interpret laboratory, radiologic, and other diagnostic tests necessary for the evaluation of patients in the MEU.Bill for services rendered within the MEU and ensure clinical documentation supports the level of service charged.Adhere to all applicable regulatory, quality, and compliance protocols.Educates patients and their families regarding their medical condition, their care plan, medications, and patient responsibilities.Communicates results of MEU evaluation with primary care physician or clinic.Consults with primary OB/GYN, resident staff, and attending physician as need for changes in the patient's condition or care plan.Works in a collaborative relationship with resident physician staff and with MEU nursing.Actively involved in the education of medical students and junior residents in triage of pregnant patients.Special skills needs:Ability to read and interpret non-stress tests (NST’s)Ability to perform and interpret limited ultrasound examinationsAbility to perform light microscopy for evaluation of vaginal dischargeAbility to document patient encounters in Impact electronic medical record system (Cerner)No matter what drives you – whether it’s the fast pace of trauma care, the celebration of a last infusion treatment, caring for the sickest babies in the region, or the longstanding relationships developed in family medicine – UAB Medicine offers advanced practice providers (APPs) the opportunity to challenge their skills across the entire continuum of care. You’ll also participate in research and develop best practices to drive innovation and improvement, both at UAB Medicine and across the APP community.Position Summary:To provide medical care and treatment within established scope of practice to surgical patients as assigned by and under the direction of the collaborating physician (Section 610-X-5 of the Alabama Board of Nursing Administrative Code) or under supervision of a Board-Certified Physician (Section 540-X-7 of the Alabama Board of Medical Examiners Administrative Code). The collaborating physician shall be available for direct communication for consultation and referral or arrange for the same medical coverage by a physician who is pre-approved by the State Board of Medical Examiners in the same manner as the collaborating physician of record. To coordinate plan of care, discharge and specialty referrals as appropriate to meet the age specific needs of the patient. To plan and coordinate health care education for patient, family and other health care providers as needed. To perform comprehensive physical examinations and assessments. To interpret, analyze and evaluate patient’s medical record and social data. To perform and/or assist the physician with procedures per collaborative agreement. To coordinate and participate in performance improvement activities.Key Duties & Responsibilities:1. Based on thorough physical and psychosocial patient assessments, formulates and implementscomprehensive patient care plans focused on surgical interventions. Plans include patient andfamily education, prescriptions, additional lab and diagnostic testing, and therapies.2. Ensures complete documentation of patient assessments, patient care plans, and care provided.3. Orders and interprets laboratory and other diagnostic tests for the patient.4. Maintains records and reports as required by regulatory agencies and The Joint Commission (TJC). May coordinate and/or participate in performance and quality improvement activities.5. May assist in the coordination of research protocols, serving as a patient advocate and a liaison between the patient and other health care providers.6. Provides assistance in orientation and/or training of new clinical personnel as needed. Provideseducational information by conducting workshops, in-service training and distributing appropriatematerials for patients and staff.7. Serves as the expert clinical resource to clinical staff and patients in the area of specialty.8. Provides a safe environment for patients and others.9. Demonstrates a responsible attitude toward continued professional growth.10. Performs other duties as assigned.Position Requirements:Minimum Requirements:Master's degree in Nursing with a Women's Health Nurse Practitioner certification, or Certified Nurse Midwife required. Work experience may NOT substitute for education requirement.Licenses/Certifications/Registrations:Currently certified as an Advanced Practice Nurse (APN) with Certified Registered Nurse Practitioner (CRNP) Specialty or Certified Nurse Midwife (CNM) Specialty by the Alabama Board of Nursing required. Certified in Basic Life Support (BLS) from the American Heart Association (AHA) is required or should be obtained within 30 days of employment.
