ASSISTANT GROUNDS MANAGER

Position Title Assistant Grounds Manager - Charleston, SC Job Summary The Assistant Grounds Manager position requires minimal supervision and involves coordinating and supervising all aspects of grounds and lawn care on a K-12 campus. The role includes developing and implementing schedules and budgets, procuring materials, ensuring compliance with SSC services, client, OSHA and manufacturer protocols, and providing professional consultation and leadership in grounds and lawn care projects. Responsibilities Develop and implement schedules for management of campus grounds/lawn care. Manage, train, and oversee all grounds and athletic field operations, including support vendors. Maintain financial records of all departmental funds and labor. Provide management support to Site Director. Act as safety coordinator and trainer for employees. Ensure operations comply with SSC services, campus, OSHA, and manufacturer manuals. Procure materials using approved vendors and procurement protocols. Implement standard operating procedures, follow protocol, and implement quality assurance plan. Provide preventative and curative maintenance on equipment as specified by manufacturer manuals. Implement environmentally sound pest management program, including integrated pest management, focusing on weed abatement. Perform light maintenance and repair of equipment. Ensure all work is performed safely for employees, subordinates, students, and facility users. Develop, implement, and manage snow and ice management plans. Requirements Minimum of a two‑year degree in agriculture/horticulture or related field (extensive experience may supersede). At least five years of supervisory experience in grounds/lawn care management. Strong written and oral communication skills. Computer proficiency in Word, Excel, PowerPoint or compatible programs. Ability to promote awareness of the management program. Ability to obtain a pesticide license within six months of hire in core, turf, and ornamentals categories. Ability to operate grounds/lawn care, snow removal equipment. Willingness to work unscheduled hours typical of grounds/snow removal duties. Relevant certifications enhance candidacy (Certified Playground Safety Inspector, Certified Turfgrass Professional, Certified Professional Grounds Manager, Certified Grounds Manager, etc.).
