Registered Nurse ICU Staffing Pool

Mission Health, based in Asheville, NC, is seeking a compassionate and skilled Registered Nurse for our ICU Staffing Pool within our Healthcare & Medical Services department. In this role, you will provide high-acuity, evidence-based nursing care to critically ill adult patients across multiple ICU units, including medical, surgical, cardiac, and other specialty intensive care settings, depending on organizational needs. As a member of the ICU staffing pool, you will float between units to support patient care, respond to changing census and acuity, and collaborate with interprofessional teams to ensure safe, timely, and effective treatment.

The Registered Nurse ICU Staffing Pool position is responsible for comprehensive assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of nursing care for assigned patients. You will perform and document thorough assessments, interpret complex clinical data, recognize early signs of deterioration, and initiate appropriate interventions. Core responsibilities include administering medications and titrating critical drips, managing ventilators and advanced monitoring equipment, coordinating diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, and ensuring accurate, timely documentation in the electronic health record. You will also participate in bedside shift reports, multidisciplinary rounds, and family conferences, promoting clear communication and shared decision-making.

Successful candidates will demonstrate strong critical thinking, clinical judgment, and the ability to remain calm and effective in fast-paced, high-stress situations. You will prioritize and delegate tasks appropriately, adhering to ICU protocols, infection prevention standards, and all hospital policies, while maintaining strict patient safety practices, including fall prevention, central line and catheter care bundles, and medication safety checks. You will play a key role in patient and family education, explaining treatments, equipment, and care plans in an understandable and empathetic manner.

This position requires flexibility to work various shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays, as well as the ability to float across ICUs as assigned.
