Sr. Staff Product Manager (HT/NGS)

Overview Illumina expands access to genomic technology to realize health equity worldwide. We are seeking a Senior Staff Product Manager with deep expertise in next‑generation sequencing and a proven track record of successful capital equipment launches. Responsibilities Act as primary product manager for novel product development at the system level, covering end‑to‑end workflow solutions for main use cases. Collaborate deeply with R&D, Operations, Commercial, and cross‑functional teams to ensure system delivery and compatibility with both on‑market and future products. Establish product/system‑level requirements based on customer, market, and business needs, using market research, voice of customer, business analytics, and use‑case data. Serve as product and customer champion within a cross‑functional core team, supporting product development in early and post‑launch phases. Develop business cases to support decisions on new product requirements, pricing, and initial sales forecast predictions. Partner with key commercial stakeholders to develop commercialization strategies and approaches for product launch success. Act as product expert with Product Marketing to create launch value propositions, messaging, training, and collateral (market studies, presentations, publications). Collaborate with product management and regional marketing to define growth areas, application enablement, and market expansion strategies. Analyze business drivers, market trends, and customer interactions to inform product placement and feature decisions. Build relationships with key customers, thought leaders, partners, and industry influencers to stay abreast of emerging trends. Establish strong cross‑functional partnerships with Research, Product Development, Operations, Quality, Commercial, and Global Marketing. Preferred Experience Minimum 12 years of related experience with a Bachelor’s degree, or 8 years with a Master’s degree, or a PhD with 5 years of experience; equivalent experience accepted. Experience with next‑generation sequencing technologies such as SBS and related platforms. Real‑world experience with customer implementation of sequencing workflows is a plus. Demonstrated product‑management experience throughout the product development lifecycle for a major capital‑equipment product line. Track record of effective public speaking and executive‑level presentation experience. Successful commercial launch of a new product in a lead role (not support). Experience in developing system requirements, with knowledge of both hardware and software preferred. Experience working on early‑development products, guiding product‑market fit and translating requirements into design inputs. Experience developing product strategy and roadmaps in a collaborative environment. Prior experience in market development highly desired. Strong analytical skills with the ability to tie detailed analysis to larger strategy and make data‑driven decisions. Compensation and Benefits The base salary range for this role in the United States is $155,600 – $233,400, depending on experience, location, and internal equity. Employees are eligible for variable cash programs (bonus or commission) and equity opportunities. Benefits include health, dental, vision, retirement plans, and paid time off.
