Critical Care Registered Nurse (RN)Critical care registered nurses provide specialized care to patients experiencing severe medical issues, including heart attacks, strokes, shock, trauma, and respiratory distress. The role encompasses a variety of responsibilities aimed at ensuring the safety and recovery of critically ill patients.Key ResponsibilitiesAssessing patient conditions and developing individualized care plansTreating wounds and administering advanced life supportAssisting physicians with medical proceduresObserving and recording vital signsEnsuring the proper functioning of medical equipment, including ventilators and monitorsAdministering intravenous fluids and medicationsPerforming suctioning as neededCollaborating with multidisciplinary teams in critical care settingsResponding promptly to life-threatening situations using established nursing protocolsActing as an advocate for patientsProviding education and support to patients and their familiesQualificationsMust possess current ACLS and BLS certificationsTexas RN or multi-state RN license is requiredCritical care nurses may also be involved in caring for pre- and post-operative patients. Additionally, they may assume roles in case management, policy formation, and administrative tasks as needed during peak operational periods.
