Position Description ONLINE EXAM WINDOW TENTATIVELY SCHEDULED FOR SEPTEMBER 9-10, 2026 INTERVIEWS TENTATIVELY SCHEDULED FOR SEPTEMBER 22, 2026 The Fresno County District Attorney's Office invites applications for the position of Special District Attorney Investigator (Extra-Help). Incumbents will be responsible for conducting confidential investigations into the background of prospective employees consistent with California Peace Officer Standards and Training requirements. Incumbents are not Peace Officers and will not make arrests or take law enforcement action; this is a civilian investigative position. Note: Temporary (extra-help) employees are paid an hourly rate for actual hours worked, are not entitled to benefits, do not obtain permanent status, and serve at the will of the department head. Minimum Qualifications Experience: Fifteen (15) years of full-time, paid work experience in a public law enforcement agency conducting background or law enforcement investigations and interviews. License: Possession of a valid Class "C" driver's license, or equivalent. As a condition of employment, candidates must undergo and pass a thorough background investigation and polygraph examination. These investigations include employment/credit histories, verification of education, arrest/criminal records, drug/alcohol use, and personal conduct. This list is neither inclusive nor exclusive; other relevant areas may be investigated and verified. Additional Information It is the applicant's responsibility to notify Human Resources of any email address, mailing address, and telephone number changes. Selection Process Pursuant to Fresno County Personnel Rule 4 - Selection Process, applicants may be required to complete an examination process and successful candidates will be placed on an employment list effective for a minimum of 3 months and certified in final rank order as vacancies occur. Exam and Interview Dates Tentative Exam Dates: September 9-10, 2026 Tentative Interview Dates: September 22, 2026 Additional interviews will be scheduled as needed.
