Job Title Specialist, Mechanical Engineering Job Code 40211 Job Location Rochester, NY Job Schedule 9/80 Job Description The Mechanical Engineer will design and develop space-based optomechanical systems and/or mechanical support equipment with interfaces to precision composite structures for spacecraft payloads. Essential Functions Responsible for completing optomechanical performance, manufacturing, and reliability assessments, mechanical assembly definitions, and technical specifications with supporting trade studies. Documentation of recommendations for presentation, review, and approval. Develop design concepts Support drawing creation, assign and evaluate tolerances, and drive drawing releases. Participate in cross-functional teams of engineers and designers to accomplish assignments. Investigate solutions to product or process problems. Oversight of suppliers, including technical oversight and mechanical ICD/specification development Qualifications Bachelor’s Degree and minimum 4 years of prior relevant experience. Graduate Degree and a minimum of 2 years of prior related experience. In lieu of a degree, minimum of 8 years of prior related experience. Preferred Additional Skills Secret clearance or higher CAD experience, especially PTC Creo Experience in an aerospace and/or optics environment Understanding of space-based optical system design Experience with opto-mechanical, electro-mechanical design, tooling/fixture design Experience with the ASME Y14.5 Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing standard Strong analytical skills with emphasis on using and/or directing finite element analysis (FEA) desired especially FEMAP, with knowledge of hand calculations In compliance with pay transparency requirements, the salary range for this role in New York state is $76,500 - $142,500 . This is not a guarantee of compensation or salary, as final offer amount may vary based on factors including but not limited to experience and geographic location.
