Job DescriptionThe Shipping and Receiving Agent processes all incoming shipments by unloading delivery vehicles, verifying shipment contents against purchase orders and packing lists, and inspecting materials for quality, quantity, and damage. They document receipt of goods in the inventory management system and route materials to appropriate departments or storage locations promptly. For outbound shipments, the agent prepares materials for distribution by pulling orders, packaging items securely, generating shipping labels and documentation, and coordinating carrier pickups. They select the most cost-effective and appropriate shipping methods based on urgency, destination, and material requirements. The agent ensures all shipments comply with applicable regulations and carrier requirements. This role maintains accurate records of all shipping and receiving activities, including tracking numbers, delivery confirmations, bills of lading, and customs documentation when applicable. The agent monitors shipment status, proactively communicates with carriers to resolve delivery issues, and updates stakeholders on shipment progress and any delays. Inventory management responsibilities include performing regular physical counts, reconciling discrepancies between physical inventory and system records, and maintaining organized storage areas that facilitate efficient material flow. The agent identifies slow-moving or obsolete inventory and reports findings to management. The Shipping and Receiving Agent operates warehouse equipment including forklifts, pallet jacks, hand trucks, and other material handling tools in accordance with safety standards. They maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment, adhering to all OSHA regulations and company safety policies. Customer service duties include responding to inquiries regarding shipment status, resolving shipping discrepancies, processing returns, and coordinating with vendors and customers to address concerns. The agent works collaboratively with procurement, operations, and other departments to ensure seamless material flow and meet business objectives.
